Let's see... everyone says that FFVII is the best. While it did have a good story, I liked the FFXIII and FFIX stories.

FFXIII... I saw the potential of it. The characters were great but the story was told... pretty blandly.

However, the build up in FFIX is awesome and just completely amazing.
I almost had a heart attack when I thought you were going to say FFXIII had the best story.

Lol, not to say I don't like the story xD I love the story of XIII. It's my fave game. However, I hate the way it was told...

And Hope. Oh GOD, I hate Hope >_>

I feel the same way about Lighting, only more hate than you can imagine. teehee But I really wish I could include Crisis Core. Too bad it's not a "numbered Final Fantasy" D:

I find XII to have the best story of the numbered ones. I just liked the way the world seemed bigger than the characters. As well, it seemed a lot more geared towards an "adult" mentality than the other games. It was told more subtly than the ham-handed attempts of most of the recent FFs. As well, the character development (for the most part) was great. The characters grew alongside the game's plot (barring a couple of them...) so I felt the overall experience was a much smoother ride.

Of course the older FFs will always remain great in my mind, but I do acknowledge that the technical limitations of the time hurt the telling of the stories. If they were updated...nah. If today's square updated them, the games would probably be ruined forever. :)

I wish Tactics were on the list because it would be first, heh.

I'm not too sure to be frank. I adore personally FFX's, FF VIII's, and FF IX 's but who's to say that those are the ''best'' ?

FFX is good and it has a good romance plot between Tidus and Yuna and the Summoner sacrifice is a nice twist on the whole Summoner ability within the FF series.

FF VIII like FF X has a good romance plot, though I enjoy FF X's better and sometimes it feels flawed and rushed, so even though I enjoy the game's story... guess it wouldn't be the best in the series...

FF IX has a good story. I love the flashback with Zidane and Kuja. Garland's ambition, Garnet's story, the romance between Zidane and Garnet, Vivi's feelings and fears about life and death and Freya's backstory...

It's a draw between FFX and FFIX.
:hmmm:

FF IX's story makes me think " Wow this story is really, really good " ! while FF X's story makes me think " Oh wow, so much deep emotion and passion was written into this story " ! :gasp:

SE was doing really good with FF IX and FF X and then they brought out FF XIII... derp.
:edd:

in all honesty i couldnt tell ya which is the best since i havent played them all but i have to say IV, VII, IX, X, XII, XIII, and XIII-2 are all tied for 1st

i stand by 10 having the best stroyline, with VII coming in a very very close second. both of those games were land marks for the company. VII being the first release for the original PS and X being the first release for the ps2 in the FF game series.

What did you like about the stories in these? :) Did you feel driven by the plot itself in each or the characters? Were there any moments in a game which surprised you?

Also, a few months have passed since I last posted in here. :lew: I've since completed X, XIII and XIII-2, have played most of Crisis Core, more of VII and have restarted X-2. :hmmm:

I would still choose VIII and X, but on top of that, I have to add XIII-2. A number of people felt the story in XIII-2 was uneventful and/or confusing, but I absolutely loved it. The paradox theme was interesting and refreshing - they dared to delve into a topic that baffles even some of the most informed scientists. The highlight for me, though, was the characters Serah, Noel, Caius and Yeul, whose intertwined stories were bittersweet and beautiful.

i liked them cause each of their stories dragged me in... the char's were so well thought up that i felt each of them... IV was my first FF game and i played it for the SNES... Cecil and his rise to be a paladin along with Kain and his involuntary betrayal was a great twist... each of those games had characters with great stories and that's all i care about... the original 3 didnt have much of a story but i enjoyed I and III (never played II)... XIII i was entranced by the graphics but the story still caught me... XIII-2 was just awesome... the time travel and paradox take was just thrilling... Every game i choose were games that i have played that captured my eyes because of the stories they tell... i have not played II, V, XI, or XIV... played the beginning of VI and VIII but didnt care much for them... i will play and beat them for their stories though and let you know what i think of them

FFX had the best story by FAR, ive played all the final fantasy games except 5 and 6. X had just everything u needed for a great story. plot twists, emotion, the music, everything just fell right into place at the right time and made it epic.

Then play 5 and 6 and rethink what you just said,X has a great story (One of the best) but 6 has better character development and 5 has some great story twists.

Although I fully expect 7 or 10 to dominate this poll I think that the story behind 12 is both deep and based more in reality.

To me FF12 is the story of a world about to enter a world war after many smaller wars and the effect on normal people one of whom happens to be in a position to try and stop it.

The main character is a boy who has lost his family to the horrors of war and carries some scars but he hasn't let it weigh him down to a debilitating all consuming level, this is in contrast to other heroes in the series Cloud and Tidus I'm looking at you here. here is a person who is an orphan with dreams at the start of the game and by the end he has realised that his dreams can be realised. in effect the game is the story of a young boy growing and evolving with the actual prelude to war being a background to the adventures that he has. His naivety in the background machinations of the sub plots is refreshing as is the fact that he is not secretly the son of a long dead race or a dead king.

I know that this is only my opinion and talking to others it is a deeply unpopular one.

... I'm going with Final fantasy crisis core.. Like I said before its the best ff game I've played so far, I don't play the others.. The story lines better than most, the characters are great.. Should've ended better

FFV? Really? 5 had a very mediocre storyline. I can understand your argument for 6.....but not 5. But I actually agree with Zeroxys. X has my favorite plot. FFVI is extremely close though.

I have a tie between 7,8,9 and 10's plots.. I just cant decide which is my favourite. All of them made me cry at some point. After completing one of those final fantasies in the end I always get the feeling that the time I spent playing the game was well worth it. I just hope when I grow up and have kids I can get them to play these games with me :P

I was going to say FF8 but it's delivery of it's story and character development is so convoluted at times...I will have to pick FFVII as it was my first and it will stay in my heart with it's concept of life. FFX comes close because of the ending was one of the best emotional endings around in Final Fantasy games.

VII, VI, & IX in no particular order. They were the strongest games morally (at least from all the games I played in the series) and all had this hopeless feel and heartless villains. I liked X's story alot too, but i couldn't help but feel like the game was alot shorter than the others. I also liked VIII, but it didn't draw me in like others I've played.

FFX's story was just fine, nothing great.

Dunno which to vote, FFVI or FFIX. Mmmm...tough choice.
Anw...I voted for FFVI but that doesn't mean FFIX's story wasn't as good as FFVI's. I just prefer VI's. Both are great games and one of the best FF games.
