I'm not sure I could decide on a best story line. FFIV and FFVI are my favorites, but also my firsts, so I may be biased.

FF VIII for me is my favorite although it was the first one I played so I know i'm definitely being biased here!! Haha. The story as amazing kept me gripped the entire way though! X and VII are a close 2nd and 3rd though :D

Its hard to say when to me having the best storyline is working on the world aswell. I would say theyre all equal...except
13.

For me, definitely IX. It had a lot of complexity and dealt with the meaning of life and handling death and all that... plus the world and the characters are the best in my opinion, and that has a lot to do with how I feel about the story.

  1. X: Loved it. The game fit summoners, politics, "religion", and other great concepts into one game.
  2. XII: Sure, the characters are a little dull, but the storyline is intriguing.
  3. Crisis Core: Maybe it's because I'm a Zack fan, but his story was gripping, and set the stage for the rest of the FFVII series.

brand new hear but I am such a huge final fantasy fan. I had to go with my inner fan boy and say vii just because the whole stroy over crissis core, vii and advent child is brilliant. Cloud and zack are my favourite charecters ever and I relate to cloud through my own experiences. But Xiii has a lot going for it I like the fact that it has no conclusive ending and that even going into XIII: Lightning Returns there is so much unanswered which I love as it gives me so musch to look forward to. Also the way XIII has its story based of the crystal novelle mythis means that there is so much the story can do so. VII wins my vote but in close second is XIII and XIII-2 as One. Just to add X would have been fantastic because the stroy was beliveble and also it built up over a long period of time like a book rather than a game like call of duty that lastst a day. but once it is revealed that someone has to be sacrified to become the final eaon the rest of the story happend too quick

In this order (speaking only for the ones I've finished), FFVII, FFVI, FFIX, FFX, FFVIII. I really liked all of the stories in each of those though so it was hard to pick that order. FFVII's story is simply amazing and I still have yet to come across anything like it. It's really tough for me to pick FFVI over IX in terms of story but if I could find any complaints about IX's story, it was a little on the cliche side. I felt like FFX ran with a great idea that could have been executed a little more effectively and with a less obnoxious main protagonist. The whole time time travel/compression part to the plot in FFVIII was pretty cool. Where it really suffered was in the character development department (especially for the characters other than Squall and Rinoa). I also felt like the writers kind of slacked off when it came to Ultimecia's personality. The plot seemed to spend more time telling what she was doing rather than why she was doing it and her character didn't really come into the picture at all until you fight her. Above all, her character didn't allow me to hate her like I did Sephiroth, Kuja, Kefka, and Jecht.

Having played 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, and 12 I can easily say 10 has the best by far. I can actually remember what the point of them going to all the different places was, where as in some of the other games it was like, wait...why am I here again?

It also helped that all the characters were there for a reason and didn't feel like they were there just because. (Except maybe Kimahri. He made sense in the beginning, but towards the end you could almost forget he was there at all.)

Overall it just held my attention better than the other games, and I remember its story more clearly. So it has my vote.

Easy answer for me: FFIX. It was lighthearted (until the end), funny, engaging, and just overall excellent. FFIX is the definitive FF as far as I'm concerned.

Even through I'm not anywhere near finished. FF6 takes it for me. I love worlds which have a dystopian feel to it, and I got that from 6, more so than 7. I also enjoy a good villain and Kefka is just about one of the best FF enemies there is. After 6, I would have to say 8 then 7. All three of them are perfect in their own right, but 6 does more for me than the rest.

7-10 are all phenomenal to me. Can't really decide which ones are the best.

There's too many posts here for me to read them all, but I'm surprised final fantasy Xll got this many votes. Since tactics is not on the list, Xll got my vote. It all comes down to opinion, really. I'm not much into romance and love stories. The politics and war of Xll was very inviting for me. I love the medieval setting (although there are flying ships but whatever). Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed al the stories of final fantasy as they are very well written. But the games made by Ivalice Alliance (Xll and Tactics) are more of my style.

I would have picked FF IV for its unique one off style and quick (never boring) variation, or FF VII for its depth and prestigious multi branch story, but I didn't xD. I voted FF VI.
Multi party dungeon crawls ~ Characters and loot that you could miss if negligent ~ Character abilities that afaik were revolutionary for the time and never seen before. Most of all I was moved by parts of the story and even felt a little awkward during the opera (seeing a hardened General show her softer side). The huge ending scene is pretty f*cken epic too!

XIII having more votes than IV is an absolute joke. Who ever voted that piece of shit clearly hasn't played any of the classic games. Or they're trolling just to be "that person." That blows my mind.

in all honesty i couldnt tell ya which is the best since i havent played them all but i have to say IV, VII, IX, X, XII, XIII, and XIII-2 are all tied for 1st

I have to add FFVIII to this list... I actually sat down and played it past Ifrit and found the story enticing... I had to continue and the story is all around great

unfortunately you think you opinion is everybody elses... I personally liked FFXIII... but to just come in and say that is kinda off topic and you should just leave and take your post somewhere else instead of being a douche

Unfortuanally my first FF was X, followed by XII, XIII, VIII, XIII-2, IX and VI.
I was really surprised how the quality of writing and story decreased since X.

X was for a long time the best, really emotional moving FF, even before IV and VIII.

Then recently I played VII a few weeks ago.

Holy #ä/&%$!!!"!

This is by far the best story I've experienced in the game.
So many twists, such a perect setting. The sadness when you find about Clouds secret.
It's just completly mind-blowing. So thats my favorite.

I voted VII,it is no wonder to me that this game has been voted and deemed widely by fans everywhere to have the best storyline. It was truely a well thought out story,I can remember the first time I played this one through,,,nothing beats that kind of experience, though getting laid for the first time comes in at a close second.
