While Alyss was enjoying the concept of her spoils, she never noticed the girl with the gun, Clarissa, get the drop on her. Before she knew what was happening, she found a gun pointed at her head and the girl looking down upon her as if she had just hit a major jackpot. From the looks of things, Clarissa was already lining up to shoot. Her finger was on the trigger and Alyss could only sit there with the oddest expression of shock, anger, and horror on her face. “What have you got there?”
It took a little while, but Alyss managed a rather meek answer. “N-nothing… go away. And s-stop pointing that at me…” While she tried to sound tough, it was rather hard for her to do so with a gun pointed at her; in the hands of someone whom had already proven themselves to be able to use it no less. Alyss did have a bat in her hand, but against the speed of a bullet she would be no match. A part of her knew she was going to die there, but another part of her wanted so badly to wipe the look off the blond girl’s face.
That should have made Cora happy. Just as she tightened the grip on her bat, something else had happened. Before she could do anything about it, the crate of food was taken away by a lady with white hair. In the commotion, Alyss stood up and got behind a wall so that Clarissa could no longer aim directly at her. However, from where she was standing for cover she could still see the woman who had stolen the crate quite well.
The crate that Alyss could hardly manage to move was being held effortlessly with one hand by the white haired woman. Without a doubt she was strong… very strong. Was this one of the Reapers? “Evening. Lafiel Gremory-Laffinty, at your service. I am a colleague of Master Gabriel which you have met at the station. While I can just allow Mistress Clarissa here to just execute Mistress Alyss, I am afraid I would prefer something different.” That answered Alyss question as to if the woman was a reaper or not.
Now that she thought about it, she was glad that she came along to interrupt what could have very well been the end of Alyss’ life. However, she was still angry by the fact that she no longer had the food. It was her food… she got there first. Why couldn’t anyone leave well enough alone? “Do not worry. I am not as sadistic as Master Gabriel. This first task is quite easy. Just fetch it… well the tickets anyway. Nanicci, a pair of demon pups please.”
Two medallions shot out of the door and were caught by two of the ugliest things Alyss had ever seen. “Oh, and Nanicci, some prepubescent shadow pawns, just to make it a bit more challenging.” Then from around the park, small black creatures spewed from the ground and started walking around. “Rest assured, these spawns are quite easily dealt with if one is careful and the pups will stay within the vicinity of the park. Although they will be separated by a fair distance as to not make it so easy. So retrieve the medallions and bring them back to me. One medallion, one sack. Happy hunting, and good luck.”
Very sheepishly, Alyss stepped around from the corner. Lafiel didn’t seem as if she was going to leave, which meant that if Clarissa had any ideas, she was going to have to wait until the Reaper left. However, this also meant that Alyss couldn’t have any of her own. She hated this entire situation. She so desperately wanted to say something to the both of them, but both of them had the upper hand. And Alyss was far from brave.
Sighing, she walked past the both of them with her bat in tow and headed to the park. She could see one of the dogs, but it was surrounded by the Shadow Spawns. They didn’t look too tough, but there was quite a lot of them… Without waiting for them to attack her, she quickly ran towards them and started swinging her bat at them. In just a few swings, she took out two of them. Yet being as small as she was, she was already somewhat tired even from the most menial amount of effort.
As she kept trying to force her way through a group of them, they kept coming at her and attacking. However, Alyss kept swinging the bat. She wanted that food. She wanted to show Clarissa that she wasn’t better than her. No one was. She wanted nothing more than to wipe that stupid grin off of Clarissa’s face. Alyss hated her more than anything right now. “I will show her…” she muttered under her breath as she continued swinging at more of the spawns.
