it has all the makings of an FF and you can share the experience with your friends. I dont care much for most the FF games(favorite rpg series is Wild ARMs), but to me XI and XII stand out.
 
Hmm... toss up between FFVII and FFX. FFVII for the following reasons:

1. One of the most malevolent final bosses that the series has ever revolved around.
2. One of the most engaging plot lines.
3. The infamous (implied) love triangle between Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa.

FFX for the following reasons:
1. Very engaging plot.
2. One of the best love stories with Tidus and Yuna.
3. Great graphics for its time.

I just can't decide between the two, so both of them are my favorites.
 
FFVIII - In terms of its storyline, brilliant and well thought out... Other top favorites would be FFIX and X.
 
This forum surprises me. I expected FFVII to have a bazillion votes, but both FFIX and FFVIII are beating it. Still, I don't see enough FFX love ;)
 
I think the best was FFXII because it brought some new originality to the series. In previous games you see the same repetitive storyline: the dude with blonde hair and barely a shirt with a big sword has his world threatened, i know that vaan fits that description quite well but the other characters evolve in a new way. Also in FFXII no one character steals the spotlight for excessive time. I read earlier that someone said FFXII was a "Star Wars" i agree on the fact its a little sci-fi-ish but its something new to the final fantasy series that might produce nice results.

My favorite is still FFX im still in love with the story.
 
Strangely enough IX is in the lead, and got joined by me as well. For me this is the ultimate FF-game;

no guns, Vivi as the Black Mage, medival setting (a homage to the first titles)
all subquests are enjoyable and rewarding, especially the Chocobos
strong characters and backstories
Square always reinvent the series, but who would expect this after VIII?

It was also the first FF-game I played, so I can have been colored by that.
 
I say FFX is the best out there. I love the story, the characters, the romance, the summons(especially Shiva), I love the world of Spira...I love everything about this game. Oh and Auron is my favourite character in all RPGs.
 
I think it would have to be out of the FFVII and IX. VIII would have been along side them if it had not been for my distaste to the gameplay system. X was also a very goof addition, however, VII or IX...but I don't know which one to choose!!
 
I think FFx IS the best. The plot and aeons work really well. The characters *cough* Auron *cough* are amazing and kick ass and the music is like none other i've ever heard. Especially the piano shizz:P

FFVII is the best! Classics rules and so did KotR. Espacially having fun killing ultima weapons.
 
Each game has their own standing points. So far I've enjoyed them all, and I've made it a passion to play completely through them all. What I enjoy is a good final fantasy 7 or 8, mainly because when replaying, you can get through the storyline with minimum mess, where in FFXII, you've got that skipping option, its just that there's really no memorable music. I'm looking forward to XIII, I just know that's going to be good. I support the transition of the battle system from stationary to active, it's really quite revolutionary. And the graphics are kick ass. As well as the music. Come on Square(-Enix), don't fail me now :P I'm a little sad for Nobuo Uematsu for leaving though, he's had a good run.
 
I have played FF I-X, XII and MQ.

I gave my vote for VI.

Why it has the best cast of characters ever in FF-series. Story is absolutely amazing, great plot twists and characters have development and there is 14 of them. Well 3 of them are kinda bonus characters except at few points you have to play with Mog. All the characters are memorable and very similar personalities can be seen in every main FF-games after VI.

Everything else is also great and only downsides I found is that game is easy and sometimes can get boring.

Other almost good FF-games as VI are VII, IV, IX and XII.
 
Final Fantasy VI most definitely for me, the storyline and the characters are just amazing to me. I've lost count of how many times I've played through this game, starting with the SNES version XD.
 
Hmm i expected FFVII to be the top of this list, certainly not IX...Anyway i go for VIII as you may allready know. I've explained this many times but in short, the characters as much as people like to disagree were so in-depth as well as the story line, lots of exciting twists and confusin to make your brain work. The Junction system was the best there has been yet, the ONLY thing that hinders this game is drawing magic..if you could get slightly more that 9 each daw then it would be fine. Triple Triad was a very exciting game, far better than Tetra Master anyway. And Squall was just king :D!
 
I voted for FF9. FF12 and FF7 come in a close second and third. I liked everything there is about FF9. The story, the graphics, the characters, Tetra Master, Auto-Abilities, the side-quests, and the music.
