Do you use a walkthrough?

I don't use a walkthrough on my first run through, unless I get stuck like in FFI/FFII but I prefer to just run the game through first time and get as much done as possible, then I use a walkthrough on the second run through so that I can do the stuff I missed to get me to 100% 8D

i use walkthroughs on my first run. They havnt contained spoilers for me, i often dont do a 2nd run through for a year or so. so i like to do it right the first time round :)

If I get really stuck and end up wandering around helplessly, than yes. I use spoiler free walkthroughs, mind you. I don't usually play through most games more than once, so I try to get a look at what I could potentially miss, such as items, side quests, etc.

Ok this is somewhat embarrassing haha but yea, most of the time I can't survive without a walkthrough/guide. Reason being I'm just the type of guy who aims for 100% completion in the first attempt. Not that I hate to replay FF(In fact most FF-games have very high replay values), it's just the perfectionist in me. I tried X in the beginning without a guide, and although it didn't hinder my progress much, it's just irritating when I realised how many items and sidequests I've missed when checking back with the walkthrough. So yea, I'll most probably be sticking with the walkthrough. Haha

I only use them as last resorts, as in I've spent days trying to find out what to do and I still can't figure it out.
Usually it's something really stupid, and when I realize it I kick myself for not seeing it. xD

I also use walkthrough just for basic information on enemies (but I've usually already beaten these enemies at least once), just to see what their stats are and if there was a better way to beat them than how I did.

I'm not ashamed to use a walkthrough if it's just for little snippets of information that would be otherwise impossible to find without five weeks of searching. :P

I do use walkthroughs sometimes, but mostly just to make sure I get everything and do everything. I'll check to see what treasures are coming up or if there are any sidequest coming up that I can do. If I can't find one of the treasures on the list, then I'll use it to find where it's at. Besides that though, I usually try to do everything myself. Sometimes I get stuck and if I get frustrated then I'll see what needs to be done to get past that part.

I don't really need a walkthrough to complete the game but I always find that without a walkthrough, I have to level up my character a lot higher because I'm missing some weapons or spells, etc and lack the perfect stragtegy to best the bosses.

I always like to defeat bosses at the lowest level possible and that is the reason I follow a walkthrough. However I try to figure out myself and then look up the walkthrough, like most of you to see if I missed anything.

I never use walkthroughs on my first run through. i run through and do as much as i can, then do another run and collect everything with the walkthroughs help, as many others before me, lol.

If i've stopped playing a game for a while and i've forgotten parts or secrets and have spent hours running aimlessly trying to find something on a game on my first run, then i'll use a walkthrough but thats a rare occasion.

I never use a walkthrough the first time i play a game. Unless Im totally stuck. This ensures that I will have the desire to play the game again in the future for a 100% playthrough. I dont want to play a game once and leave it history. I always use a walkthrough when i play 100%. its the only way i can garuntee that I achieve everything I want.

Except for some games, I don't usually replay them. So yes, I always use walkthroughs, for FFI, VI, VII, VII, VIII, IX and XII. This is to make sure I get every bit of story and perfect the game the way I want it.

But when I was young, I played FFVII and FFVIII blindly and was too stupid to understand the story. I tried using cheats last time :P

Not often. Only when I get stuck in really tight missions and what not or if a monster is hard to beat. I have the strategy guide for IX and X-2, and they're are covered in dust right now. Now, if I already beat the game, started a new game, and wanted to try and aim for 100% perfect game - I'd most likely look to walkthroughs for assistance .

I do. It helps me immerse myself in the world- I really like it when a good walk through points out interesting tidbits or facts. It allows for more appreciation of what went in the game.

Like most people here, I usually don't use a walkthrough the first time I play the game. I like discovering treasures and strategies by myself. If I really struggle with a boss, I'll go check an online walkthrough for help. On my second playthrough, I use a guide to get everything there is to get in the game.

For FF, never. Unless I'm absolutely stumped on something and google it, I don't use them. I feel that spending vast amounts of time in a book takes away from the general enjoyment of the game.

I like this idea. I have a player's guide for FFVI, and though I didn't use it for most of the playthrough, it is very interesting reading material, and it's full of beautiful Amano artwork as well :D

As far as using walkthroughs for help, I try not to unless I've tried everything and get really stuck. Most of the time, I mainly just use them for help with sidequests or finding hidden items, since you can go through a whole game without knowing certain things are there. I think it would be a really frustrating waste of time going around clicking on everything and searching every area of the world map if there's nothing there to be found. I do love the feeling of being able to say I discovered something on my own, but I also have too many other things to do IRL to spend extra time on a game when it's not necessary, because there's nothing extra to find.

One good example: recently while playing Tales of Phantasia for GBA, I found a fireplace I could stick my head into, unlike all the other fireplaces I'd seen, and a dialogue box opened up to count how many times I had done it. Thinking there had to be something to it, I kept doing it 10 times, then 20, then 50, then 100, and I got up to somewhere around 110 before I finally broke down, looked up a walkthrough, and discovered that there is actually nothing to it :hmph: So, I wasn't too happy that I had wasted 20+ minutes doing it XD

I use a walkthrough after my first playthrough mainly to find hidden treasure and the weaknesses of bosses and monster's that are really hard to get by but I try and buy the walkthrough even if I don't think I am going to use it for the history it has on some characters and area's and some of the cool artwork. Walkthrough's sometimes have nice extra's that help you get into the story better or point things out that you would have missed so I will always try and get them but not always use them.
