Does God punish masturbation?

Religiously, Lust is a sin because, like all of the Seven Deadly Sins, it cuts you off from God. Lusting after somebody pulls you away from God, because you are objectifying His creation, and you are doing it to the point where it distracts you from worshipping Him.

Yep, that's the reason I've heard that lust is a sin. It distracts you from prayer and your worship of God. God is the only person you should "lust" after...or something to that extent.

However, several years ago I read something about how the Catholic Church was reconsidering the inclusion of lust in the deadly sins. They were starting to recognize that it is a healthy human emotion. Ultimately, I guess they didn't deem it to be quite healthy enough to be removed from the deadly sins.

I agree with this comparison of humans to animals. Humans, like animals, have natural urges to spread their seed. That's just the way we're programmed. Lust is something that promotes the spreading of seed; it encourages mating. I think it's sick and unnatural to deny those sorts of feelings. In all honesty, I think suppressing those sorts of feelings is just setting yourself up for some deep psychological issues in the future. I think we all have Christianity to thank for the idea that lust is a bad thing. The Old Testament is pretty open to the idea of sexuality-- just look at the Song of Solomon. It's an entire chapter of the Bible dedicated to sex! Hooray! But then Christianity came along and deemed sexuality to be impure and disgusting (completely ignoring the fact that it's human nature and completely natural). Screw that. I think Christianity has a really creepy and weird virgin obsession. They're like a cult of virginity. As far as I'm concerned, Christian concepts of sexuality are unnatural and unhealthy.

Agreed :elmo: And frankly, you become rather pathetic when you don't masturbate and try to keep "lust" away.

There's this preacher boy I've known since 8'th grade, and I'm always making fun of him and corrupting his morals (I don't know WHY he considers me a friend). Well, he's got that whole mentality of "mmm...what I wouldn't do to her if we were married" going on, and that even doing so much as making out before marriage or looking at porn is bad. So one day back in December, I show this idiot some very well-animated Teen Titans pr0n on Newgrounds (I even told him it was an Adult Swim only episode, and being the moron he is he believed me). He managed not to fap to it, though it turned him on pretty good. So about a month later he calls me up, says that at night when he's lying in bed he can't get that video out of his head and he has to fap to it. Naturally I laughed my ass off at that, but I'd say he's a pretty good example of what happens when you try to repress something natural: you get turned on by cartoons. Frankly it's kind of sad and pathetic, but I'm a sadistic bastard so I love to torture him with things like that.

Actually I have another example, and this is something the preacher boy was telling me a few months ago. There was this couple at his church, and the wife refused to have sex. Due to her upbringing, she didn't just view sex as something unclean, she was downright afraid of it. Her poor husband couldn't talk her into doing it, and their marriage started to get really fragile. I should ask the preacher boy for an update on their status, but my guess is that they're divorced by now.

Sex is natural; lust is natural. They're not unclean, nor are they "sins of the flesh." Advanced as humans are, our species is still an animal and still has basic instincts: the "fight or flight" instinct, the instinct to nurture children, the instinct to reproduce, etc.

I agree, repressing these feelings leads to their expression through unnatural ways, such as the famous abuse of choir/altair boys in the roman catholic church.

The church should distribute leaflets encouraging priests to wank off more...I wish I could design them :)

lol'd.

I think it's ignorant to view masturbation as a bad thing. Lust is a natural and healthy thing; it doesn't hurt anyone unless it's vulgar and/or consumes your entire life. The thing with humans, though, is that while we may still have our "animalistic" needs, we also have self-control. We should definitely not repress ourselves from masturbation, porn, or sex if the partner wants it, but we have the power to prevent ourselves from sexually vulgar behavior (like teh raep).

It's a bit pathetic really, if lust was such a bad thing why on earth is it an attribute of all "God's" creatures. I mean what separates us from other animals is our ability to act on thought rather than instinct but if we apply that to this rediculous degree, we are no longer human, we're merely drones serving a completely ersatz and nonsensical ideology.

How gross. I could never do this... thing you all speak of. With that said...

I really hope he doesn't punish us for that. I do believe in God even though I'm not a religious person. I just like the idea that there is a guy running things in heaven.

Anyway, it's not a bad thing to do. Like damn near everybody said already, it provides pleasure and doesn't harm anyone. What's better than that? If anything, I think this should be promoted more as something that people should do. But Ehh... That's just me.

when you say you believe in god which one do you mean or are you one of these people with their own definition of god that is a lot like the god spoken of in the "bible" except with some subtle differences?

it would depend largely on the religion but i'd imagine there would be some sort of punishment since they all have very specific ideas on fucking. who you should fuck, how you should fuck them, when you should fuck them and in some cases the answers are no one, not at all and never. they are rules so we can only assume if they are broken that there is supposed to be some sort of punishment.

Does God punish masturbation? Define punishment on your own. Some times what appears to be punishment is reward but we need not go that deep.

Does God punish masturbation. In the after life or during life. Does he ever punish you for it ?

The Catholic Church deems masturbation a mortal sin in the event of it being recreational. That is to say, if it is done outside of the reasonable human threshold to relieve oneself, it is an idolatry.

I didn't read all the posts, so I apologize in advance if this is a reiteration of what someone else has already stated, but I was talking to my sister-in-law about this subject and she said that she knew someone who had gotten cancer because of a lack of use of the genitalia. So I'm pretty sure God doesn't want us to get cancer! This makes sense to me, especially for single people, better to use it than to get cancer, imo. I'm not sure if this post is very clear, I hope it is. I mean it makes sense to me that unused/unstimulated tissue could be more susceptible to cancer, though I'm no doctor.

Why on earth would god want to give you cancer anyway?? Pretty evil punishment from someone so 'loving' :ari:

The punishment is the mess you are left with afterwards.

God is a dickhead. He creates something so so great and tries to make you feel like shit for doing it.

This entire question is revolved around the first question if you actually believe in "god" the way Christians teach.

It is however interesting to look into it as "god" has changed the last centuries. The reason is because we have so many splitting factions within the Christian society that it’s quite hard to follow which one allows or hates subject a, and which one is less strict or open about subject b.

But in all seriousness, does the book actually have a story or law that prohibits masturbation. Actually no, not really the closest story that many miss think is the story of Onan who jerks off to his dead brother’s wife to stop him from getting together with her. He uses masturbation to hold himself back. The bible does however frown upon pornography and lustful thoughts.

In fact, there is no place in scripture where masturbation is even mentioned, much less forbidden. This is a very odd situation since it is so common a human experience, and given that scripture speaks of other sexual sins (some fairly perverse and rare) without any shyness at all.

To be honest, I couldn’t really care less about a book that supports slavery and selling your own daughter as an object. Masturbation feels good so do it until your pecker hurts.

basically jesus loves you but his dad thinks you're a shit.

that is the 100% truth and if you dont believe it you are going straight to hell.

god invented cancer so that people who trust in him and believe he is the best can have a really shit this life but an even betterer next life. those who have cancer and dont believe in god ultimately have a shitty this life and an even shittier next life. this is a very very good reason to only trust in the lord our god and his son our saviour.

I don't think God wants anybody to have cancer. I would blame Monsanto and GMO and all the c****y foods we eat more for that. Just like I don't think God wants anybody to step in front of a moving tank or bus, or get killed because they're texting instead of paying attention while driving, but there are consequences to bad action...if you swallow poison will you blame God if you get sick or die?

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that not masturbing results in cancer. If you know a single thing about cancer it should be that it's to do with mutations in the genes that are involved in the cell cycle, cell growth and so on. You'll not grow hair on your palms if you masturbate nor will your testicles explode.

Why would god punish you for playing with the body he gave you?

Stupid thread.

If it were true then wed all....actually forget it. Its not worth responding too.

I think getting varicocele(inflammation of the spermadic cord; this is mostly harmless) is possible through masturbation, but cancer, no it isn't. Your body isn't going to punish you for pleasing it.

...That being said, I don't like to involve myself is religion based topics, but I'll just put my 2 cents here.

You first have to understand what kind of person, God is before saying how he'll react to anything..

First of all...speaking for myself, I guess.. men have to do it. If you got a girl, I guess you don't have to, cause she'll do it for you(in more ways than one). To avoid "blue balls" and simply because it is a form of relieving stress and it it is great method of putting you to sleep. I can't speak for God on this, but you aren't hurting anyone and most of all, you aren't doing devil worship by pleasing yourself.

I think the Catholic church used to make people think sex was a sin. When in the Old Testament it clearly states to be fruitful and multiply. So sex is not a sin. Same goes for playing with yourself. People only do it because they really need somebody to love. Poor person is stuck alone.
