I absolutly HATE the battle system in this game

Yeah with IX you can always run back through that game. Its classic.

As far as XII if you play it long enough the battle system is great. I think that true FF fans first start to play it and don't like the differences in the old school to XII. But I liked it. GAMBITS ARE GREAT. for non-main character people.

I personally liked the battle system myself, its one of the best aspects of the game imo. I sure as hell don't miss random battles thats for cert.

Eh...I could take it or leave it. It's unremarkable. The elimination of random enemy encounters is nice, though.

I really liked the battle system. It was fast paced, but not too insane. In addition, the battle chain made item gathering rather nice, though I could have done with a gil system for victory...buying everything gets EXPENSIVE! Other than that, though, I enjoyed the refreshing change of pace. Square changes something every time it puts a game out, and this was one change for the better in my opinion.

I for one hated the battle system and the fact that the leveling up process took too long i found out near the end of the game that the more people you have in battle the lower the amount of experience gained if that had been made clear near the beginning of the game i would have only used one character in battle at any given time.

It didn't seem to take any longer to level up than in any other FF games to me. I was able to level fairly quickly. I only used 3 characters though and didn't bother to level my other 3.

I actually really liked the battle system in this game. I liked the fact there was so much action in the fightning and the battles were no longer random. That was one thing that irritated the hell out of me back in the older FF games. You'd be running along and one fucking random battle right after the other. You'd take two steps and you're in another battle. I like the fact that you could actually move your own weapons in this one instead of just hitting a button and waiting for the prolonged attack...-_-; So yeah, I don't know why people are complaining, but I love this battle system and it was time to get away from the random battles. I'm also half asleep so if this post sounds like shit, my apologies.

It was much more lifelike...

It took me a while to get used to it, because with random battles I always felt I was in control (esp FFX), the idea of pre-setting moves was a big hurdle to get over. But once I allowed myself to trust my gambits, and therefore my characters, it just seemed to click with me.

I really liked how much you could personalise the abilities of the characters, you can have them learn anything you want. And swapping weapons was a lot of fun- I had Fran running around like a maniac with a huge axe!!:)

I must admit I still love the random battles, but I think this is a good system in its own right.

Wouldnt that take just as long? You'd just be working on chars individually.....unless you were planning on solo-ing all the way thru then I think that would be really pointless

Can't say I thought it took too long to level up myself, if it did then maybe it FELT quicker because there was no brak in play you just bashed summat then moved on. Nice and flowy like.
Altho I'm still not keen on it, but that's prolly cause it took me so long to get used to it. Willing to give it another go soon, hopefully i'll come back saying I finally love it

the only complaint I'd have is its possible to setup your characters so that you can press nothing through a battle and still win

I don't hate it, it's different and good. But it is too damn slow! if they could make it faster, it would be great!

I love it but I also love other battle systems appeared in previous titles but I hate how some people hate this "new" battle system.

I mean only big chance in FF-series after VII is no more random-battles. WTF!? Most game series evolve and don´t stick to same formula every time but FF-series hasn´t evolved but now XII is nice fresh air.

Hopefully series keep evolving, unfortunately fans who don´t like the new battle system are making sure that nothing changes.

i just sarted ffXII and i am very annoyed with the way battles work. i dont see why they couldnt stick with the same style of game play, that is one of the things i loved most about ff games. not pleased at all. anyone else feel the same?

I feel the same.

I absolutely detest the battle system in this game mainly because I don't feel like I'm in control of my characters when I fight.

Oh I can move them around and all that jazz but I can't block attacks, which is very annoying.

The main reason I don't feel in control of my characters is because I don't get to decide exactly when they attack. I can choose who they attack, I can choose what they attack with, and I can choose what sort of attack they use but it irks me to no end that I can't just push the X button and get an instant attack. It gives the characters a feeling of independance that doesn't go down well with me at all. The game isn't supposed to play itself, after all and the Gambit system only emphasizes this because as Cooky560 said, "its possible to setup your characters so that you can press nothing through a battle and still win"

Keep it original? Random battles/Turn based battles are not Final Fantasy stylee, they're general RPG systems.

Sticking to the original system would suck - it's dated, and how long can one person go on playing a series and stick with random battles and the whole - wait for each person to attack before the other one does - method?

If people want to complain about how easy it was to win battles in XII, well, put some effort into creating ways of fighting tougher enemies. The same thing goes for previous games. Half the time people just X'd their way through games, or used the same magic all the time, same summons etc. I know in XII the game makes it so that you can continuously use the attack command (i.e), but you know, magic, technicks and other tools are there for a reason. It's what I did anywho.

Blocking attacks is simple too - build your characters up properly and they'll be able to take on the world.

The battle system is new, that's what makes the game good. It is unlike the other games. It is basic, but yet it is more complex then all the other games. From a range of simple gambits you can make an unstoppable force.

However .... it is a very annoying system if you prefer the atb.

All things you guys said considered I liked the system but it made the game a lot easier then it should have been.

the only complaint I'd have is its possible to setup your characters so that you can press nothing through a battle and still win
Its for convienience.

For everyone complaining about Gambits; turn all Gambits off then go into the Config Menu and select 'Active' instead of 'Wait'. Then prehapes raise the battle speed to something higher to make it quicker. There you go, just like the ATB System of old only you can wander around instead of being stuck in the same spot. Honestly I don't get why people bitch about Gambits. >_<

I think there are a few ways you can look at it. Every FF since the series started has changed it's system in some way. Job classes, espers, materia, sphere grid, etc. Change is the one constant of the FF series. While the system in ff12 may seem more drastic, it's really not. It's just that what was changed is such a staple of the rpg world in general. Do I prefer the old system? Yes. Does the new system suck? I'd say no. I think it definitely has some bugs and they can only improve upon it from here on.

I think some don´t like battle system because it doesn´t have any "cool" supermoves like Omnilash, Lionheart and Tidus fourth limit. I´m glad there was none because those supermoves make game too easy, espesially in X.

And saying XII battle system makes game too easy, yes but battles has been easy after VII. I had problems in XII though but that was my one choice because I didn´t use much gambits or licence points.

FF-games has to evolve, I think it is damn time to have some change. We have already seen ten very similar games so change is good. Some might dislike game and battlesystem too only because it wasn´t FFX.
