I absolutly HATE the battle system in this game

I agree, Gabranth-kun.. Personally I had NO CLUE how to use it at first, but once I got used to it, it saved my ass in many a boss battle. :D And as you said, you don't HAVE to use it if you don't want to.. I myself only used it for bosses and the tougher monsters once you get towards the end of the game.

I don't really like it nor do I dislike it. It's actually not very different from the previous systems. I think it's nice that random encounters are gone. I still attack about every monster but I don't get thrown into battles where the game loads longer than the battle lasts. Gambit makes the game a lot easier. Lazy as I am, I got good at it in the middle part of the game and I was like unbeatable. It doesn't really matter. The battle system. The game lacks character depth and the story isn't interestingly brought. That's the problem, not the battle system.

i dont hate it infact i love this battle style yay unfair fights
if you start your Licence board it will be alot better i know i use excaliber and i have fast attackes so i last alot longer go me and i can get sagiaries whenever

new battle system GOOD or BAD

personally i liked it because it gave te game more flow and it was just relaxing

the only bad thing about it was that it was quite hard to keep all of your players in check but its not that hard once you concentrate

OK yeh it brike years of tradition but overall it soooo much better

I agree. While i love the old style of random battles, i thought it was a lot better for you to have a possibility of avoiding conflict if desired. I also liked how you could move your characters around in battle, it just seemed to make the game flow better.

We already have a thread on the battle system ^^

I actually really like this battle system. It's more exciting this way, I think; you're just wondering around the Pharos and OH MY GOD Ixion comes out of nowhere. :D It's also easier in that aspect, because you can just avoid things when you see them.

no i actoully like the new fighting style at least u can move around insted of just sittin thier choosin ur att

I don't see why there are so many complaints about the battling system. :/
Sure, it's something new and a little awkward at first, but it's generally the same. It's still turn based, the only difference (a good one too) is that you can see all the characters you use walking around. Not to mention, you are able to choose party leads and control whichever character you wish, not limiting yourself to being one character the whole time. :) Quickenings are a nice touch, and deal a lot of damage. They saved my ass many times. Gambits were an OKAY idea, but I don't really use them.

The only thing I dislike about this game is the Lisence idea. Otherwise, chip chip cheerio.

Actuallly, y
ou could easily avoid enemy confrontations in FFX, FFIX, FFVII and FFVIII simply by equipping a member of your party with ‘Enemy Encounter’ which completely stopped all enemies from attacking you. So that sort of scuppers your argument.

In any case, I loathe FFXII’s battle-system. Unlike FFVII, there is virtually no strategy involved in dispatching your foes, all you do is sit back and let your team do all the work for you. Technically speaking, you could probably go through the entire game killing all the bosses and all enemies you encounter without pressing a single button. How incredibly dull.

Furthermore, you could probably complete the game just be using the ‘attack’ command, that is how poorly balanced the game’s fighting system is. All in all, I disliked it. I hope FFXIII’s returns to turn based random battles like FFVII’s otherwise I might not play it.

I didnt like the battle system because for one i wasnt used to it and it was really hrad to attack the enemy if your character you are playing the time doesnt want to stay they should have just kept the original gamepplay then the fights I die from well be a bit easier.

I'd say that there are too many abilities. I barely use any (except for magic). Most of them I use in Boss Battles but seriousely, even FFX-2 battle system is better.

I honestly hated the battle system in XII i was quiet downhearted when i first played and realized the system had changed although after playing for a while I've gotten used to battling in that way, must say though still much prefer the original turn based form

Eh? Battle system was pretty much a joke to figure out if you have played other RPGs. Maybe even FFXI (online only) can help you out, but the gambit system was the only "new" thing to this game. (quickenings as well)

The only thing that pissed me off were the quickenings... the only way I was able to master them was playing long hours.. I hated feeling like that.

Gambits just made the game a breeze. Yet again.. SE loves to either make stuff way to easy or way to hard.. they can never find a middle ground. If you were like me I could set a gambit up so that I could leave for a boss fight for around 20-30 minutes and come back with him laying before me in a pool of blood.

That's just not right.

I don't mind the new system but I still prefer the old system, it became synonymous (is that the word?) to the series since. I heard they're doing XIII with the same system aren't they so Gambit system haters:Sorry :(

It took me a little while to get used to the system in XII. It's a little bit fast-paced sometimes, but after a while, I began to like it :) It suits the game well.

yeah i wasnt keen on the battle system either. If you had the gambits on then you felt pretty redundant. Point your team at the bad guy and off they go... and your left just watching. Seems a bit pointless. I do like the fact that you can see the monsters though, and the battles are intergrated with the main terrain

I absolutely adore this system.

Gambits are a LIFE-SAVER. No more scrambling and panicking, characters automatically do what you want them to. I'm actually sitting here right now, with FFXII in the background, doing some auto-levelling with Negalmuur while I chat to my friends in MSN and look at the TV once in a while. Not a single hand on the controller. And Vann just levelled to 37!

To be fair, I hated the system at first. It was a big step, and I wasn't used to it, and I didn't understand Gambits at first. (I only lasted to Firemane without them. Massive, epic failure. Also resulting with me not touching the game for a month) Once you learn and appreciate it all though, you adore it. I like the chaining system in battles as well, really fun way to get rarer items and to gain more money.

While random battles were pretty cool, it got boring. It was pretty unrealistic was well (Oh, look, these hills look pretty clear. Do do do..ACK! RANDOM MONSTER APPEARING OUT OF NOWHERE!) so, in terms of realism, this was really big for FFXII. While it's annoying trying to flee (especially when I got to Level 30, tried to be clever by getting Zodiac Spear...fleeing the enemies on the way to it was horrible, and once you got cornered, you were done for.)

Overall, I really enjoyed the battle system used in FFXII. It was fun, you could try different things and challenges and while it was slow for getting used to, once you did, you definately liked it. :D

Yay for paragraphs.

i dont see why they couldnt stick with the same style of game play

Ugh. Repetition is sooooo boring and dull. You want the same old battle system? It's easy to find. Pop in a game like FFVII or something like that.

The new battle system rocked. It was more fast-paced, it let the gamer avoid and pick whichever battles you wanted to fight or simply walk around.

Personally, I couldn't take another game where just getting into a battle takes 30 seconds. Seriously. I mean you are traveling across a frozen terrain, the screen shatters into pieces warning ya that you are encountering enemies, and then when you hear the fanfare and get a 10 second view of the surrounding area, then you get to actually pick your first command of the battle. THEN, after the fight you hear a bit more fanfare, tell you how much EXP you got, push A-button to continue, find out what items you got, press A-button to continue, etc...

With the new Active Battle System, it saves time on the gamer by just going up to the enemy, swiping it to death, and moving on. No change of screens, no delay in game, no getting a scenic view of your enemies and surroundings for 10-20 seconds before you can fight at all.

I can't believe I haven't posted in this thread before. I love the Gambit system in FFXII. I wasn't a fan of a lot of gameplay elements in that game but this is one I adored. I'd spend hours fine tuning and perfecting my gambit system for each character. In fact, if I could mention one thing to improve the entire system, it would be to allow me to save different setups. I think I had a different one for different dugeons, bosses, enemies. I absolutely loved it to death. My characters were so self sustaining when I got done with them that no one could touch them. If this system were a girl, I'd name her Betty and fuck her twice on Saturdays.
