Most famous FF character?

Most famous?
Cactuar, Tonberry, Chocobo, Moogle plus many fiends and summons but the most hated: Malboro.

- it's about creating a myth of the game world, and these characters still keep reappearing.

But with only regarding the main characters:
Characters that have spawned several games, and moved to other medias:
Advent Children - the whole FFVII cast
Kingdom Hearts x 3 - Squall, Cloud, Auron, Yuna, Paine, Rikku... (you get the idea)

I have only played FF about a year and a half, so I could easily think of if any characters was known to me at all before I played any of the games.I don't think there was any, so one could ask: Is any of these characters famous outside the FF-community?

If any it would be Cloud because of being the lead in Advent Children.

There is also one easy way to answer this since several characters are famous from sources outside FF. Gilgamesh, Odin and Shiva to name a few. I would say Shiva is the most well known of these being a deity in a religion with about a billion adherents

Let's see...

1. Cloud - He's just everywhere I look. *Looks at banner*

2. Sephiroth - Probably one of the best villains in the series, no matter how annoying or cliche it may seem to some.

3. Tidus - There's still that enigmatic aura in him that we cannot solve - hence, the countless theories surrounding his character.

4. Tifa - It's the boobs, I tell ya'. On a more serious note, however, she does portray a very strong female character in the series, despite her gentle and demure characteristics, especially in AC.

5. Aeris - Fans like AG should explain it all. =P

6. Vincent - C'mon, they even made a game just for him.

7. Squall - He's one of my favorite characters, but he has a lower rating because I noticed that he is NOT as popular as the others. However, he does have many fans too.

8. Yuna - She starred as a main character in two games. Enough said.

9. Zidane - Maybe it's the tail, who knows? But his character IS interesting, nonetheless.

10. Cid - ...I think the name Cid is more popular than any of the characters Cid, to be honest...
 
Cloud has earned quite a reputation due to FFVII AC and the games as well.

Tifa is the hottest (guys' point of view) FF character. (famous for martial arts fighting and the gigantic breasts)

Sephiroth is probably the deadliest villain of all times, enaugh said.

Basically all FFVII characters are quite popular, the other ones like, Squall, Edea, Yuna etc. are known only by fiew.
 
In the real world, I would think Cloud is the most popular. Bahamut is also pretty popular I think. In the game, Cid is the most popular because there is a Cid in every FF game.

Actually Yuna is very well known. If you go to any anime con there are about five or six walking around and everyone in the room knows who she is whether they've played video games or not.

I may actually have to revise my list and put her at number 3 :O
 
I'd say Cloud is the most famous, when Advent children came out more people were exposed to him besides people who had actually played FFVII, he has also made appearances in loads of other games (I know I knew who he was before I played VII)

Sephiroth would probably be the second most famous character for the same reasons Cloud

The third most famous character would probably be Squall (despite the fact a lot of people know him as "Leon" if you know what I mean)
 
1.) Sephiroth- I must admit that I am a fanboy of this beast of a character. There was TOO much time and thought put into this antagonist than almost any other Final Fantasy game.

2.) Jecht- There are so many things to say about Jecht that I dont know why he hasnt been mentioned. Yes I know he had a somewhat small part in X but even so, once again another well thought out antagonist from another great FF for its time.

3.) Shadow- The most badass ninja in Final Fantasy...hands down. If you put him and Vincent on the same team, I dont think there'd be anything they couldnt beat.

4.) Squall- I dont know what it is with Squall but theres something about him that keeps me playing Final Fantasy VIII once in a blue moon. Whether its the fact that he plays the calm and dont care card almost the entire game just to find out that he did, or that he wields if not THE most awesome weapon in Final Fantasy.

Well, since the question is the most famous FF character and not a list, I'll just give my number 1. In my opinion, the most famous FF charater is:

Sephiroth

Call me a fanboy, front runner or just plain unimaginative, but it would seem that the mad science project himself would be the most famous from all the conversations, forums and gaming I've been involved in. I hate to repeat all the reasons that have been listed below since it's already there, but here are my reasons.

1. He was the main protagonist in the first FF game released on the PS2, which was the most widespread and dominant system in the market at that time.

2. He was the murderer in the most remembered/trajic death in the history of the FF franchise. I have friends who still hate him for "that scene" and it's been over 10 years now. Crazy...

3. He's also one of the few evil characters that held to his beliefs to the very end. Even Kuja, who many consider the most evil/destructive, had a "moment of clarity" at the end. I think it was his cold conviction that give him such strong character.

4. When considering the recognizability factor: Besides all the extra appearances, there is only one character that dressed in his all-white outfit, there is only one scripted wielder of the Masamune and google the word Sephiroth with Final Fantasy, and you will not get more hits with any other character.

5. Finally, I'll cite his history. Who hasn't felt unloved? Who hasn't felt abandoned? Or jealous of a sibling/friend? I think he's the most popular because he was also one of the easiest to understand and relate to. Granted, my mother didn't live in a giant jar, but we've all had a Sephiroth moment or two in our lives.

This isn't "Who's your favorite character". Cloud and Sephiroth are 100x's more famous than Aerith. It makes no sense to put Barrett and Yuffie ahead of Squall and Sephiroth. Just because Barrett is "stubborn" doesn't mean he's famous.
 
Cloud and Sephiroth are the most famous, purely from the number of mediums they can be seen on.

/Yuna possibly next with the X/X-2 storyline. And FFVII has sold the most out of all the games, as well as having said spin-offs. :neomon:
 
I started to believe that Yuffie Kisaragi is getting more popular, somehow. My friend, she has only heard f Final Fantasy but she knows the character Yuffie! The other day after I got my haircut she said "Hey, nice haircut. Now you look like Yuffie!"
EVERYONE I know also seems to SOMEHOW know Tifa and Cloud. Okay I know that they're both in AC.
My bestiest friend Sarah, knows Seymour(FFX) but has no idea what he looks like. She says imagines him as Seymour Skinner
 
Sephiroth, as he made it to the TOP.5 of any game villains. He's number 2 I think. Also, his theme song is the greatest Final Fantasy song ever, his katana is the most badass weapon I've seen in any game, named after Masamune, who was the most famous weaponsmith in ancient Japan and to sum up he is so badass, he can't stand it!

Cloud & Sephiroth are by far the most famous Final Fantasy characters. I reckon behind these two you probably have the likes of Squall, Tidus, Tifa.
 
1. Cloud- all and all a great character, good looking, kick ass in battle, with the coolest looking sword
2. Sephiroth- the definition of a villian
3. Squall- silent but deadly
4. Judge Gabranth- How can you not have someone who looks this cool in your top ten
5. Red XIII- what other FF game has a lion/tiger like creature that cool
6. Seifer- the definition of a rival, carried a badass gunblade like Squall
