[V2] Last Movie You've Seen

The last movie I saw, at home, was Law Abiding Citizen. I felt like rewatching it today while eating dinner. Such a good movie.

The last movie I saw in the theaters was the Dark Knight Rises. <3 Which was freaking awesome.

The Dark Knight Rises

I saw this at the cinema about a week or so ago and I really enjoyed it though I thought it had been severely over-hyped because of the movie before it (which was also over hyped due to Heath's Death). I definitely think this one is the best out of the three though and Bane was a much better bad guy than the joker. Though his voice...whyyy did they make him sound like a frail old man??? Also batmans voice...that is the worst shit ever!

The movie was very entertaining, I didn't get bored once through it and I loved it a lot. Anne Hathaway was a very good catwoman I think, I didn't expect much from her but in the end she impressed me a lot. My fucking god I want batmans bike with those spinny wheels!!! To be honest though, the show hardly had anything to do with batman at alll though :P half the time he was out of action and other characters were doing things for him...it only really felt like a batman movie for the last 45 minutes.

Either way, very enjoyable film, just not the best thing out there like people would have you believe.

I like how the last 4 posts are the Dark Knight Rises :lew:

Anyways last movie I saw was The Lion King 1 and 1/2

It was alright, but they ruined a few elements of the first movie...like how when they raise the baby lion (haha forgot his name) into the air and everyone bows? They really had to change that into them falling because of that boar's fart? That's just stupid.

I never would have watched it but...I was babysitting. :lew:

Superbad, which was good fun. :) Excellent acting, some fun jokes, good characters. I loved the policemen. :lew: Chris and I both enjoyed it! That doesn't happen to often, so it was a bonus. ;)

I've been trying to explore different movies recently and this was recommended to me. If anyone has any further recommendations, drop me a PM! :)

I went to see The Bourne Legacy. My Dad wanted to see it and my friends rave about the earlier films so I gave it a go. I really like Jeremy Renner and Edward Norton as well so I thought I would enjoy it.

Overall I wasn't very impressed. The story was a bit shit I think. It basically explains why he's on the run and that's all there is to it really. It started out being quite intriguing but the plot didn't have much scope to it IMO. The action was OK, the final chase scene was far too long and a bit random when that assassin popped up though. The ending was terrible, it must have taken 5 minutes to write.

I also dislike Rachel Weisz. Her character had no charisma and I didn't enjoy anything that she brought to the film.

Skip it.

seeking a friend for the end of the world

at the bare basics, it's the same as eternal sunshine of the spotless mind with a more positive spin. the story isn't anything you haven't seen before, and i think in the early stages it felt a little forced, but it is told very well and it's a beautiful film. it's a really inspiring film, i thought, that makes you want to go out and do something

Natural born killers.

This was one of those movies i had taped off the tv from when i was a kid, i loved it. Had it on dvd but havent watched it since i was around 13 or soemthing so it felt pretty fresh. Its directed by Oliver Stone but was written by none other than Tarantino himself. Stone is one one of those guys you either love or hate.

It focuses on 2 serial killer lovers Johnny and Mallory knox who had troubled childhoods and runaway together, tearing across America leaving a trail of blood. Murdering every personthey come across whether it be in a bar, petrol station or restaurant, but they always leave 1 person alive to tell the story of what happened and that jonny and mal were there. Its interesting though in that its set in this media obsessed world even crazier than our own. Johnny and mal have become pop icons and the people love them. The cops led by a psychotic detective want them dead and buried and search ruthlessly to find them. A shameless tv reporter hunts them down in hopes of getting another massive scoop he can feed the hungry public. Hes no killer but hes arguably as bad as them in his own way.

Parts of the film are shot like your watching a tv show about the killers. Theres laughs from the crowds when people are killed and its downplayed as romantic and sexy when theyre fucking eachother taking hostages and murdering entire shops full of people. Even parts of Mals abusive childhood are portrayed as a comedy show. Her abusive father the funny guy of the house. Not the filthy incestuous child rapist he really was. Then it will switch from this tv show style to what you expect a film to be like. Follwing mal and Johnny on theyre path of destruction. I cant really explain it to enough justice, one of those films you have to see for yourself to really understand what im saying. But its not filmed like anything ive ever seen before.
It was released in 1994 and although it got fantastic reviews im gunna guess it was overshadowed by a certain other film that came out that year. Pulp Fiction.

Definitely recommend this to Tarantino and stone fans as a must watch. Casual watchers might find it a bit strange and perverted but i think its one of those films everyone should see. Its by no means a perfect film. Its around 2 hours long and theres a good 20 minutes 1/3 into the film where you might get bored but it picks right back up. A classic film of the 90s imo. Had it been released a year earlier i think it would have had an even bigger success but Pulp fiction is a hard act to follow. None the less if you dont belive me it holds around a 7.8 on IMDB. You can get it on amazon for less than 2 quid nowadays including postage so theres no reason not to buy it.

7.5/10 lewis rating

Captain America - 4/10...

Story:
What can I say...? Uhm...well, I kinda liked the setting (WW2), but didn't understand why they related the plot to Hitler and the Nazis. They pretty much ignored their role in the war, which was a bit weird. :hmmm: Furthermore, they didn't really explain why Hitler let his head of advanced weaponry, Johann Schmidt / Red Skull, intefere. (I didn't even know he was working for Hitler 'til I looked that up on wikipedia) It was never properly explored.

Some people feel that Marvel sent out some important messages through this film... I'm not so sure. The story lacked substance. There were far too many archetypes and not a single complex character, suggesting that the Germans were just immoral terrorists whilst America was a place of honour and glory. :hmmm: I'm not really a fan of films which simplify WW2, the leaders and their soliders. :sad3:

Characters:
Well, the acting was pretty good!
Captain America was your typical lovely-albeit-weedy-boy-transformed-into-a-strong-valiant-superhero archetype, but Chris Evans did a good job of portraying him. He wasn't over the top weak and did the best he could within the script, but the script itself was lacking somewhat in character development...
Peggy Carter was refreshing insofar as she wasn't a weak damsel in distress, but she didn't really develop as a person much either. The relationship between her and Captain America seemed to flourish far too quickly - she clearly fancied him immediately, as he did her - which made the whole thing feel a little... simple. There was nothing human about their relationship. It just existed. Unfortunately, this gave me little reason to feel unhappy at the end
when they were separated
.
Red Skull was, again, not particularly interesting...
The best character was probably Colonel Chester Phillips, who was brilliantly portrayed by Tommy Lee Jones. He was a bit sarcastic, witty, gruff...another archetype - the film was MADE of archetypes - but a good one. :lew:

Setting:
Now here is one thing I kinda liked. :lew: I liked the old feel this film had. There was such a mix of things in it, though. Scenes reminded me of Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Uncharted, Bioshock, the fireworks scene in Final Fantasy XIII - all sorts! :lew:

lawless
i can see why people don't particularly like it, because the pacing of the whole film is a bit funny. it starts off very slowly, and every time it starts to pick up, it slows right down again. the story is very well driven though, and there isn't a single bad performance in it (although i still find it hard to like shia labeouf). guy pearce was absolutely fantastic, and gary oldman was tragically underused. if it weren't based on a true story, i'd have been really irritated with the ending because it seemed very cliché happy ending. i thought the scene when forrest had his throat cut was incredibly tense, and was one of the best parts of the film.

dredd
i wouldn't go into this film expecting anything more than an average film. having said that, i thought it was unreasonably good. it doesn't try and pretend to be something that it isn't, which is just a guy who's a bit cold and badass, shooting the shit out of a load of other guys with guns. it didn't feel too contained by the one location, which was very good for it and some of the visuals - especially the slow motion scenes - were stunning to watch. it may just be the best film i've ever seen in 3d.

Sherlock Holmes: A game of shadows.
I enjoyed it somewhat, but I can't help feeling they've departed from the original character. I mean, sure he had a multitude of disguises, and, yes, he got into the odd tussle, but I found a bit too much Hollywood for my particular taste.

Dredd

Awful movie, a lot of disturbing violence. But it was pretty cool, I still enjoyed it. Dredd's a bad ass with a perma-frown and all he does is fuckin kill bad guys. They get no rights, it's great. My ideal form of justice.

Speaking of Justice. I just watched the Ace Attorney movie, so TAKE THAT!

It was rather lovely.

The Departed

Such a good film. Filled with suspense, it was awesome. Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg. They all delivered great performances. It was so good! One of my buddies found it hard to follow, so he didn't enjoy, but I didn't find it all that difficult, so I fell in love....with Addle

looper
an incredibly good film, that almost (but not quite) lives up to the hype. it has a top quality premise and set up, but the ending isn't rewarding enough. i really wanted a massive mind fuck of a twist, but it was a bit simple. it did create a very interesting and believable vision of the future, that could genuinely be the way of the world in 30 years time.
for a time travel film, it had very few plot holes and did a good job of explaining all the little bits. initially i was a bit skeptical about the prosthetics used on joseph gordon-levitt to make him look like bruce willis. if a science fiction film is going to ask you to believe in time travel, surely you can be expected to believe gordon-levitt could grow up to be bruce willis? still an excellent watch though

Resident Evil Retribution
I watched a marathon of The Resident Evil movies before seeing this one in theaters, and it was decent...
Very well choreographed, but, like all the others, was poorly scripted. The acting wanted to make me vomit and the ending just set it up for the sequel. All in all though, it was pretty entertaining and if you enjoy the RE movie franchise, then I highly recommend it.

:hmmm: Where to start? I've been on a bit of a movie binge. I'll just throw them out and give a sentence or two.

Thor
Marvel comic film adaptation about the superhero version of the Norse God Thor. Watched it for his brother Loki. The film itself, while good in parts, had semi-overdone CGI, imo. They weren't really believeable.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Disney movie about a loser guy finding out he has sorcerer abilities. Wasn't at all what i hoped. More typical Jay Baruchel (who I love) being awkward Jay Baruchel, like predictibly so.

Iron Man 2
Saw the first one and loved. This one took a bit to really get into, but it wasn't bad. Kinda glad to see Tony Stark become more 'human' and less 'fuck you, i'm Iron Man :mokken:' for a bit.

And of course...
The Avengers

Well-developed characters, for the most part. Loki's twisted evilness and his futile attempt at ruling Earth were extremely entertaining. Aside from him, the entire movie was visually stunning, funny, and just great. Glad i invested in a copy.

The Avengers
-> I watched The Avengers again last night (third time total) && it never ceases to amuse me and keep me entertained. I love the dialogue (best lines ever!), the plot sequence, and how well the characters are melded into the storyline together after debuting in their own respective movies. They all mesh really well despite being drastically different characters with varying personalities and back stories (Iron Man anyone? xD).

The Roommate

It stars Minka Kelly as the good guy and Leighton Meester as the crazy roommate who's obsessed with Minka's character and desperately wants to have a sister-like relationship with her. Maybe even more, since she's into chicks. The reason I watched it was because I like thrillers/horrors like this that have to do with female relationships or inner female struggle. Same reason I watched Prom Night, with Brittany Snow. I'm not sure what it is that attracts me to it, but I've decided I'm too lazy to dig deeply into that.

Moving on. I liked this film. It's something I'd buy only if I had someone else to watch it with. It's truly nothing special, but I still enjoyed it, and that's all that matters to me.

Men In Black 3

For some reason I have a feeling I have written about this movie already :ahmed:....too bad, I'm too fucking lazy to go searching though here to see.
So I bought this Movie on DVD a few days ago and decided to give it a watch yesterday. I saw it the first time in the cinema. It's definitely the second best out of the three, beating MIB2 by a mile. MIB1 will forever be the best though.

It was fun and quirky and Will Smith was great as Agent J, Tommy Lee Jones was getting a bit old though, you could really tell...it was kind of sad to see. The plot is J has to go back in time to beat Boris the Animal, a bogledite who's gone back in time to kill Agent K before he chops up his arm and sends him to prison on the moon. I liked the story, I thought it was fun. I love Boris the Animal. Jermaine Clements from Flight of the Conchords played him brilliantly.

My only gripe with this movie was...there just weren't that many aliens in it :S you'd think there'd be way more seeing as it's a movie about aliens but ehhh oh well, the rest was really great and it's definitely one of those movies i could watch over and over.

Ice Age 4: Continental Drift

I'm one of those people that doesn't get sick of the Ice Age movies. A lot of movies like these tend to get boring after a while, and sure, even this one has the same theme going on like it's previous ones; SURVIVE THIS PLACE, but I love it. :lew: The new characters are really nice and I'm especially fond of Shira, a female Saber. Finally a companion for Diego! ♥ Or is she...? Haha, either way, I really took a liking to her, fun fact was that Jeniffer Lopez is her voice actor. Not a fan of her music, but it was just nice to see a familiar name, opposite to Nicki Minaj that's also a voice actor. -.-

Either way, movie is great. Once again they're trying to survive their current residence, this time with a continental drift. The bad asses are as usual bad in this movie. :lew: They make you like the crew even more.

And most importantly, Scrat. You are such a friggin' hilarious creature, you just have no idea... ♥

9/10 because even though the storyline might get repetitive, I loved this one as much as the others.
