[V2] Last Movie You've Seen

Death Proof

One of my favourites from Tarantino. The plot isn't exciting, but the female characters is what does it for me every time. Nobody writes females better than Quentin, if you ask me. He nails it spot on. Femininity is no weakness.

the campaign

it was a decent comedy, but not one worth paying full price to watch. will ferrell is definitely past his best, which makes me a little wary of anchorman 2 when we finally get that. it did make me laugh at times though, the bit when ferrell punches the baby was a definite high point of the film. i also liked how well it made a mockery of american politics, and how the campaigns are run.

Pokémon: The Movie 2000

Fuck what the critics or anyone else says, this is one of the good Pokémon movies, and I will never get tired of it. I can still remember when it first came out; it was even more exciting than the first one, because it had not two Legendary Pokémon battling, but four. I didn't much care about the plot when I was eleven years old, all I cared about was that the legendary birds - which included by in-game saviour against Lance, Articuno - with Lugia, a Pokémon I knew nothing about but looked awesome, were having an epic battle. Weirdly, that's still all I care about. If I want a movie with a plot, obviously I'm not going to watch Pokémon. Still as good the...uh...I have no idea how many times I've seen this one now. Well, it's still as good as it was when I saw it for the first time, if not better, because I can appreciate the fourth wall shattering and occasional jokes made by the cast.

9/10. Because no matter how good the plot, special effects or acting are, they just can't compete with nostalgia, and I go misty-eyed just thinking about it. xD

Cinderella

It's a good film. Everyone knows this. But watching again created this urge to write a fanfic of Cinderella getting fed up with their shit, going psycho, and planning their deaths. That would be so sweet. She could totally get away with it considering the time it takes place, and the house is huge! She'd have that baby all to herself.

What Women Want

Pretty cheesy, I thought. And seeing Mel Gibson in
pantyhose
will have to be carefully scoured from my brain, and I didn't think the dialog was as good as it could've been, either. It was a passable romance movie, I suppose ;)

Just watched taxi driver, starring robert deniro. At a very young age i might add and a 13 year old jodie foster.

If you havent seen this film and you like movies where have you been? One of my favourite films of all time.

Niro stars as Travis, a Vietnam vet, now turned cabbie in a city where filth is all around. Pimps, hoes and child prostitutes run rampant. Armed robbery ,assault you name it then its happening in NYC and Travis hates it. He works nights because he cant sleep and wastes his days away in shitty porn theaters. The movie basically shows his persona spiraling out of control. Piece by part the man changes...or the city changes the man. Take it how you will.
He buys guns and starts working out. Posing in front of the mirror with his hand cannons and reciting lines someone might say before shooting someone. Trying to be dirty harry is my best way to describe it, but he lacks purpose. The girlfriend he had wont return his calls and he has no mission, no purpose until he finds someone.
Whilst out driving he meets Iris, nicknamed Easy, a 12 and a half year old prostitute who ran away from home being whored out by her lover and pimp and a dirty man who owns the rooms where people go to have sex with her, or in her pimps words. ''do whatever the fuck you want to her'' Now he knows his calling, his mission and its to save this girl.

I love seeing young deniro. The 70s was one of the greatest decades of film. To me this is one of the best films made. It ranks right up there with the best of them. If your a film lover you have to see the taxi driver.

Jerry McGuire

But I don't know if this counts since I only watched half of it. And not only did I watch half of it, but all I did was make fun of Tom Cruise the entire time. It was fun though, and I guess enjoying a film, no matter how you do it, is all that really matters in the end.

Safe.

This movie was enjoyable. A badass hitman, a genius girl , money, Russians, Chinese, Americans, voilence. What else could you want in a movie? :monster:

Typical action movie, but still a good watch.

Not to mention Jason Statham is hawt. :ryan:

his fuckin' voice makes me in heaven.

The little girl bothered me though >.>

LooperIt went pretty slow, but I liked it. I don't even care. And can I just fucking comment on that little bastard kid? Oh my god, what a great actor. He's, what, 4? They say 10 but the kid doesn't look like he's anywhere near the double digits. He can play a disturbed mind pretty well. Fuck, he's cute too. Whatever.

Prometheus

Every time mother goes out in the evening, we have a movie night, and this was the movie, which I went out and bought today. I went into it with absolutely no idea what to expect, and...eh, it wasn't half bad. An interesting take on the origin of the Aliens, although that was something of an afterthought, which I liked; I didn't realise it was supposed to have connections to the series until the end. Some amusing violence, a plot that, whilst predictable in places, wasn't as bad as it could have been, and some nice special effects. But not the sort of thing one should watch before going to bed...

Overall...hmmm...maybe an 8/10.

I had just finished watching the Indonesian martial arts flick 'The Raid' I mean the story is very simplistic and the action very much delivers. Me and the girlfriend watched it with english subtitles but when I watched it again with my dad he hates subtitles so we watched it in English dub. Which for once wasn't that bad, sure some of the voices seemed off etc but what do you expect when it is an overlay to an already finished product.

It is a bit to short and I wish they fleshed out the character relationships a bit more but it is an action flick at heart and a good one at that.

8/10 from me

So I Married an Axe Murderer

It was okay. I'm used to Mike Meyers as Austin Powers, so seeing him without an accent is so fucking bizarre to me. That's about all I have to say about this film.

Bernie

It's a true story about a super nice guy, Bernie (Jack Black) who meets a mean old lady (Shirley MacLaine).
I'd probably ruin the movie if I explained why this one really struck a chord with me, so I guess that'll be it :)

good will hunting

i really don't know why it took me so many years to see it. i've always heard that it's good from so many people, but i've never bothered too much about it. i thought i might as well watch it last night when it was on telly and thought it was incredible. it was great to see robin williams doing so well in a serious role, i think he really made the film what it was for me.
i also understand so many more pop culture references now for watching it

The Iron Lady

There was a whole bunch of freshers there who were part of the Tory party society and evidently hadn't seen the film before. They came out a little outraged, thinking that some left-wing loonie was obviously behind this because they dared to portray two Thatchers - the one given the most emphasis being the frail old woman suffering from dementia.

What did I make of it? Well, Meryl Streep was fantastic in this role. Sure, I ridiculed the thought of an American actress as Maggie herself, but she pulled it off really well, from the spot-on accent to the similar voice. I was genuinely impressed and this was pretty much the best part of the film. Unfortunately, everything else I would have to criticise, as...the film wasn't really what I expected it to be. In fact, I wasn't sure what to expect from the film anyway except for the very rough idea that the film would essentially be a biopic of Thatcher.

Yet it feels...hollow somehow. It's a biopic that is so focused on Thatcher personally that it gives virtually no room at all for...actual politics. It's more or less a series of notable events at the prime of her ministry that were briefly shown, but given absolutely no room for focus or analysis. It's probably no wonder why many left-wingers complained about the seeming lack of acknowledgement of what Thatcher's ideology actually did at the local and regional levels. But, as I'll say again, it's a Thatcher biopic. I probably should have expected something like this.

I do question the need to have so much focus on the frail, octogenarian Thatcher suffering dementia and imagining the ghost of her dead husband all along. It's kind of morbid and really not what I wanted to see. I also need to question why much of the film script seemed a bit cartoony, such as the portrayal of the dead husband in question. He seemed a bit of an out-of-place slight comic relief, particularly in the Brighton hotel bombing bit where that "my shoes..." gag being there was just weird.

Ehhh, overall, I suppose it was worth a watch just to see Streep's attempt at being Maggie. There's something about the film that makes me wonder whether this was primarily just as for American audiences as we. I concede that I should have expected to see what I got. And I suppose there's a powerful theme going on with Thatcher ultimately paying the price for her claiming of power and just how age and illness alarmingly degrade someone of their previous calibre. I wouldn't watch it again though.

Prometheus

Yeah, I have heard of many things about this movie from several friends, and I finally gave in. Boy was I glad I did. This movie hit beyond my expectations. I admit I am not too familiar with the ALien series, but I know enough to understand the ending of the movie, and pretty much, I guess, how it all got started.

The plot left something to be questioned. It really wasn't anything all-too surprising, but I guess that is expected as such when you expect the ending to be as it was.

So, overall, I would say this is a good film, and not too bad for a second or third watch.

8/10

'The New Karate Kid' with that Swank girl (who was then a lot younger then, of course) sub-par acting, but I was expecting that. Okay-ish stunts and nothing too original all around.

Now for some reason I wanna watch Million Dollar Baby again...

sinister

i usually avoid these sort of horror films, but it's been getting really good reviews, particularly for a horror. it was a real masterclass in how to make a horror. it was gripping, interesting and intense. it helped that it had a decent script, and was both well directed and acted (ethan hawke was great). for the majority of the film i was on the edge of my seat. it uses sound really well not just to build tension, as horrors always do, but also to make you believe that ellison is going crazy. it was nice to see such a good horror film for a change, and it's set itself for an inevitable sequel that could be almost as good.

skyfall

without trying sounding pretentios, but every bond fan in the world is going to have a new favourite bond film. it was pretty much the perfect bond film, and certainly one for the fans. it's gone back to it's classic roots and what made the older films so great, but slightly modernised it. they tried doing that with quantum of solace and totally failed. the pacing of skyfall is excellent. it's a long one (almost two and a half hours) and a good amount of it is made up of action sequences, and none of it is the tedious bourne style shakey camera. some fight scenes - particularly the one in the building in shanghai - are beautifully choreographed and framed, which is another call back to classic bond again. the cameo made by sean connery's aston martin db5 was perfect (it's the exact car that connery drove in goldfinger) and it was accompanied with the original james bond theme.
it was surprisingly sentimental for a bond film, but i won't go into that since it has some massive spoilers there, but we saw bond cry towards the end and he seemed genuinely affected by being shot at the start of the film.

in other words, awesome film.

Water for Elepants, which I had avoided until the other night because of Robert Pattinson. :lew: However, he acted this part very well! :) Having seen him in a few interviews, I am inclined to say he has just ended up portraying some rather bland characters; he isn't necessarily bland himself.

Anyway, I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie. A part of me strongly believed it was going to be terrible. It was actually pretty good. The story was incredibly different to what I had expected - far more sinister, and far less about 'Water for Elephants,' which was merely mentioned in passing. :lew:

The ending made me sad for all the wrong reasons. :lew: SPOILER ALERT!
Jacob, Pattinson's character, gave Marlena, Reece Witherspoon's character, everything she had ever wanted. There was such love between them. The story was narrated by Jacob as an old man, so he told his audience how they had shared a happy life together. Stories like that always make me feel sad. I'm still waiting to find the person I'm gonna spend the rest of my life with. :lew: Still waiting to fall deeply, truly in love. :hmmm:
