[V5] What are you currently listening to?

I'm going 70's old school today.

I'm listening to America's A Horse With No Name. Epic song about drug use apparently, but very metaphorical, and has the distinction of sounding like a drugged up twelve year old experimenting with acid penned it. Therein lies the charm. P.S. If you've never heard of this song before then go smash your head into a wall. Seriously.

[A Horse With No Name

On the first part of the journey,
I was looking at all the life.
There were plants and birds. and rocks and things,
There was sand and hills and rings.
The first thing I met, was a fly with a buzz,
And the sky, with no clouds.
The heat was hot, and the ground was dry,
But the air was full of sound.

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name,
It felt good to be out of the rain.
In the desert you can remember your name,
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain.
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la

After two days, in the desert sun,
My skin began to turn red.
After three days, in the desert fun,
I was looking at a river bed.
And the story it told, of a river that flowed,
Made me sad to think it was dead.

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name,
It felt good to be out of the rain.
In the desert you can remember your name,
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain.
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la

After nine days, I let the horse run free,
'Cause the desert had turned to sea.
There were plants and birds, and rocks and things,
There was sand and hills and rings.
The ocean is a desert, with its life underground,
And a perfect disguise above.
Under the cities lies, a heart made of ground,
But the humans will give no love.

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name,
It felt good to be out of the rain.
In the desert you can remember your name,
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain.

La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la la

I'm Outta Time - Oasis
One of the decent ones from Dig Out Your Soul, which I quite like lately for some reason. It can't be compared to their proper greats like Supersonic and Champagne Supernova, but it ain't a bad song.

Duncan Sheik- "Genius"

Despite the title, this song is actually about doing something really stupid. Which I did today :ffs: I was kind of an asshole to someone and now I feel really bad about treating him the way I did, so (even though the song mentions a "she") I'm listening to this song to get me through until I can find a way to fix it :sad3: It's a great song, one of Sheik's better ones I think, and despite the sad theme it's got kind of a catchy tune. 10/10.

Clearly I'm a genius
If she only knew it
but somewhere in her radius
I really blew it
I know, I know what I said to her
and I know what I did
What I don't know is how I could ever be
so incredibly stupid

You don't really need to know every last detail
It's hardly worth telling
Suffice to say, I said that I would be there...
I never came through.

So maybe I'm a genius and
she just don't see it
I fronted,
I should have admitted,
she saw right through it
I never thought that I could be
so underhanded.
somehow I've cornered the market on
the double standard

You don't really need to know every last detail
It's hardly worth telling
Suffice to say, I said that I would be there...
I never came through.

For this act of genius
and so many others
I know I should apologize
and see how it goes

What am I waiting for?
Come on, come on, come on, come on
What am I waiting for...

To all of the geniuses....
(La, la la la la la,
La, la la la la la la la...)
Come on, come on
(La, la la la la la,
La, la la la la la la la...)

You don't really need to know every last detail
It's hardly worth telling
Suffice to say, I said that I would be there...
I never came through.

Softer, Softest - Hole

I don't really care for the lyrics much, apart from the "burn the witch" part, but there's something about the song I like. I love the vocal delivery of the lyrics, and the music is really good too. It's a great song to listen to, everything just works. I just wish the lyrics weren't so... bleh. I mean, pee-girl? Really? :ffs:

Masters of Jest by Place of Skulls

This is one of the least preachy songs off of The Black Is Never Far and probably my favourite too. Great set of lyrics and some really inspired solo work by Victor Griffin. I do wish that the rest of the album was a bit more subliminal in its message though. Victor Griffin is one of the most underrated guitar players in the world, but it just feels a bit too much like being clobbered over the head with a bible at times...

"Labyrinth" -- OOMPH!

This song officially introduced me into the wonderful genre of German rock music or to be more politically correct: Neue Deutsch Harte. Well, actually a friend of mine who's like an Anglophile and a Germanophile at heart, got me into this band. I looooove Dero's vocals, it just fits into the unique tapestry of the rock-infused, slight Mandolin-laced awesomeness that is this song.

Plus whenever he whispers, "Klumpf, klumpf, let me out!"
. . . it sends delicious shivers down my spine. It helps that the lead singer is sex personified. Yes, yes it does.

Counterattack - Shadow of the Colossus OST

Amazing music that inspires me, and yet I'm still sitting here not doing anything...blah. I'm not a big fan of lyrics, because the music is usually just so much better, so I go to video game music. You can feel the emotions played rather than hear it. Shadow of the Colossus's OST just pulls it off perfectly.

Rurutia - Lost Butterfly

I just really love this song. Her voice is so pretty and the beat of the song is really elegant and soft sounding.

E N G L I S H

Butterfly, I wander around, the subway is a maze
I fly and fly, but I can’t find a way out

Someday, if that day comes for you
Remember, remember, I’m here

There are probably as many meanings for happiness as there are hearts
But we have too much
So we lose sight of it

Hey, the days that seem to go on repeating themselves, are slowly changing the future
Those threads of clouds called dreams entwine at a rapid speed

If you set your wings on fire and take flight, you could even reach the sun
I wish we could melt beautifully together as you show me that smile

Anyway, we all part one day
But, but, that’s OK, I met you

Far away, even if we’re apart, I can pray for happiness
Even if it doesn’t reach you, even if it doesn’t reach you, I’ll make a song for you

Surely it’s only when we die
That we discover the meaning of being born
But then it’s too late
So we wander

Hey, the crushing realities
Surely change you
It’s because you can change that you stay the same

If you scream until you’re hoarse, even the new moon could fall
Even if the courage not to hesitate is but a faint light…

Hey, the days that seem to go on repeating themselves, are slowly changing the future
Those threads of clouds called dreams entwine at a rapid speed

If you set your wings on fire and take flight, you could even reach the sun
I wish we could melt beautifully together as you show me that smile

Cascada - Pyromania

I can definitely see where Lady GaGa has heavily influenced them to make this track. It's one of their more fun songs you can dance along to. It's also one of the brilliantly produced songs, everything just goes so smoothly and builds up to a fantastic ending. Natalie, as ever, provides strong vocals.

10/10

Love, Vigilantes by Iron and Wine

There is something very endearing about a one-man band, a young guy strapping an acoustic guitar 'cross his chest, and singing in the sweetest most unabashed way about war and lost chances at a life wasted overseas. There's something so beautiful about this one-man band addressing the issues of those poor soldiers who fight so valiantly every single day for a country that wastes millions of dollars on something as silly as crude oil (and as detrimental to our wondrous environment; look at all of the fauna and wonderful creatures that live on our Earth). He's making a bold statement and he's doing it in the softest and prettiest way possible. I'd want to marry this man if he'd sing to me like that but instead he's doing it for a nation. Carry on, man, carry on.

10/freaking 10.

Beautiful Child - Fleetwood Mac

I need to be in a certain mood to listen to this song. It's just so heart-achingly beautiful, it always gets to me. I always tear up just a little listening to it. It's why I need to be in a quiet/reflective mood to listen to it. The piano is lovely throughout, and the lyrics are gorgeous. Vocally, it's wonderful. She has so much emotion in her voice, and the harmonies sound gorgeous and tie in brilliantly with the lyrics.

Hometown Glory -- Adele

The girl's got pure power and soul in her voice, plus she sounds amazing live. She retains that power and soul even when she's singing to like thousands of people. Gotta respect that. The lyrics, the simple piano playing, her voice, oh man, suffice it to say, I fell in love with this song. And it does remind me very much of New York which makes me tear up, even if it is a bit more than an hour away, it's not like I'll get to love there for quite a while. It's a beautiful city, proud to call it home, and this song emulates that. Simple as that.

Not afraid - Eminem

Rating: 9/10

Not bad Marshal, not bad. I know most folks have probably turned their head on this fella by now, and I did too. In fact I haven't liked a CD since the first one he ever put out. This one though, kind of makes more sense, since he's not pill popping and now is realizing a bit of reality. A bit of honesty is refreshing too, most artists wouldn't know honesty if it bit them in the ass.

There's a game called circle and I don't know how
I'm way too up to back down
But I think I'm still trying to figure this crap out
Thought I had it mapped out but I guess I didn't
This fucking black cloud's still follow's me around
But it's time to exercise these demons
These motherfuckers are doing jumping jacks now!

And I just can't keep living this way
So starting today, I'm breaking out of this cage
I'm standing up, Imma face my demons
I'm manning up, Imma hold my ground
I've had enough, now I'm so fed up
Time to put my life back together right now

Esmee Denters Feat. Justin Timberlake - Love Dealer

It's the first new song I've liked in a while. I love the different kind of sounds in this. Esmee's voice is as fabulous as always, it's even nice to see Justin providing backup vocals and having his own little verse. It's incredibly catchy and I hope it gets a high position in the charts when it's released.

Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap

This awesome indie Australian band has been compared to U2 and I personally can see why. They have feel good songs, a lead singer whose voice rivals the vocal strength of Bono, and an overall sound that just makes you want to go on a drive with your closest buds. You feel like living life comfortably after listening to this song. It's just so, so, so pretty. Thank god I'd switched on to the FUSE channel when I did.

10/10

The Script - The Man Who Can't Be Moved

Amazing song. I love the frontman's voice, it's so emotional and moving. The whole song is produced very well and moved me to tears when I first heard it. The video's even more effective and just what I thought it'd be. I love the determination in the song, it's what a lot of other songs are lacking nowadays.

10/10

Nickelback - Just For

I love this song. It's the perfect fight song and it gets me so pumped. The lyrics are vicious but awesome. Actually, they're really really violent but it kicks ass.

I love this album because it's so rough and so hard core rock. I wish Nickelback would go back to this sound, it was so intense to listen to. I was 10 when I heard this album and I've loved it ever since.

Bulletproof
- La Roux

'This time baby, I'll be . . . bulletproof!'

It's got a very 80's vibe, highly reminiscent of a modernized version of the Eurythmics; the girl's voice is addictive, as is her killer mohawk. If I could tame my hair to do that, whoa, that would be hot. But besides that the song's got a crazy infectious tempo and the beat is a nice thumping sound. Infused with synthesizers galore, it's just hot seriously.

Nickelback - Where Do I Hide
Another Nickelback song. This song is a really really great bar fight song, despite me never being in one, I just think it fits any fight. It just says bad ass to me. It's like up there with "bad to the bone" in coolness. :ryan:
