FF XIII has to be the worst without a doubt...:|
1. Constant battles

2. Too many cut scenes ( Felt like I was a movie )

3. No exploration

4. . . . . Pretty much everything else was horrible.
:gasp:( except for the music, it was ok )

I haven't played all the FF games but of all the ones I have played Final Fantasy Tactics was the worst to me.

I had to vote for FFX-2 simply because it is the only game in the series I outright refuse to play, having heard what it's like. I am usually the biggest apologist in the world for games or stories that I only care for even partially, and am very willing to try ones I've never heard of all the time, or even ones that have gotten bad reviews; often times, I'll find that the reviewers were full of crap and I'll like them. However, just the technical properties of this game--that it focuses on my least favorite PCs from FFX, there's an entire system based on wearing different outfits, and that it furthers the whole Tidus/Yuna story when I didn't even care for that aspect of X, makes it sound like something that would probably not be worth the money for me. Every FF that I have played I have liked at least a small amount in some way.

I'd have to say FFXIII. The graphics and music were great, the gameplay, while it is starting to get a bit stale with me, is good but the characters and the story is bad. It is getting harder and harder for me to finish it because I am really finding the game to be pretty boring right now.

Dirge of Ceberus sucked to me. At first I was like WTF?! A Final Fantasy shooting game?! Then I had fun for like ten minutes, then it just felt boring I hadn't played it past the ShinRa building untill I gave up and left it there. From what I heard, the game is pretty short to. At least it had Vincent...I guess...

Ok let me start off by saying I havent played ffI,II,III, or X-2.. so those will not be options for me at this point..

~honorable mention ffiv~ IM surprised this game has so few votes.. I mean the game is perfect if you like short games with no custamobility what so ever. THe funny thing is I'm sure I would have loved it if I would have played it back when it first came out instead of playing it for the first time last month.. But playing it after all the ohter ffs just really shows how weak of a game it was..

~worst ff game ever FFVIII~OH MY GOD... my english teacher always told me to proofread my work for mistakes before I handed it in and its just a shame the ffviii creators weren't hear to hear that.. SERIOUSLY WTF IS THIS.. Its the most faulty game I have ever played. The battle system is an absolulte joke for so many reasons, and I'm actually embarrased for whoever put it together. It's like they thought of an idea for the way the battles should be and just threw it in the game without even testing to see if it worked or not.

1) having monsters lvl up with you was a good idea at first glance but just one playthrough the game is more than enough to see how faulty that idea is. Why you ask? Because I belive it takes the average lvl of your three party members.. So what do you do? you put a low lvl in your party to drop your parties average along with the monsters lvl and have your high lvls go to town...

2)being able to junction magic to your hp strength etc.. FAULTY.. attach 100 flares or regens to your characters hp and add it to hp% bonuses and you can have 8k hp at lvl 15.. THAT IS RIDICOULS.. espically when monsters are hitting you for like 60 each turn.. It's like gameshark cheats without the gameshark, this game just willingly gives them to you....

3) Drawing.. YES DRAWING.. not only is it boring and repetitive but its stupid as well.. Lets say a monster finally hits you 6000 times and gets you to almost no hp.. so what do you do OH LOOK I CAN DRAW CURAGA FROM HIM AND CAST IN ON MYSELF BACK TO FULL HP I GO all while wasting nothing... oh no the monster cast confuse on me and im out of esunas (not really i have 100 on all my chara but just pretend) OH WAIT I CAN DRAW ESUNA FROM THE MONSTER IM NOT CONFUSED ANYMORE.. this works with life and other spells too..

4) Last but not least the limit breaks.. IM SORRY BUT WTF IS THIS.. I wana know who the hell's idea this was right now seriously.. So let me get this straight i get my characters to critical hp which is still a good 2k since i have like 8k hp on all my characters press triangle a couple times till my limit break shows up and i can basically use it every turn.. YES EVERY TURN.. EVERY TURN A RIZUKEON.. like wtf were these people on when they thought of this battle system honestly..

The way the battle system is set up it would still be the easiest game ever created if i chopped my hands off and played it with my face.. Seriously if you died in this game you either didn't quite understand what you were doing or you suffer from some sort of mental setback.. FAULTY FAULTY FAULTY.

LIke my saying goes there are two types of Final Fantasy fans out there.. Those who hate final fantasy VIII, and those who like final fantasy VIII only because everyone else hates it.

Oh and by the way while your exploring through the areas in ffviii if you get lost or stuck and don't quite know where your going here is my advice.. find the littlest nook or cranny that you come across and try to squeeze yourself into it because most likely thats your next destination.. But I'll bash the design creators another day I'm competly out of breath at the current moment..

~rant over~

I agree with Robbiedbee,FFII sucked hard.
It has Firion,ok,but that stuff about characters getting killed and the development system was umbalanced and sucked too. From the mainstream,it's the only one I truly hate.

Oh,and I liked X-2. It was not so linear like FFX,because you could actually choose what place you would go the whole time(not just in the end, like FF10),it had 3 endings,it had Job system and the battle system was fast and funny at least.

The Via Infinito and Trema were good too. FF10 extra dungeon was short and Omega Weapon was really weak(although Nemesis,Penance and the Dark Aeons were not)

Many, many, many people will disagree with me, but I don't care. It's just my opinion......
My worst fantasy is IX. I just hate everything about it. I have played FFI and even FFII to the end and they are OK.
But IX.... The story is just too childish for me. I don't like almost any character in the game. Quina? Is that a joke by the developers? It ain't funny a bit.
Most of the characters are overrated, especially Vivi and Zidane.
The ability battle system isn't interesting at all. I find it the most boring system out of all fantasies(even FFII 'grinding' system). The two menus are plain simple and boring.
I don't know how this game is supposed to bring together all the best things about past fantasies. For me it just brought together the worst things.... Well, I kinda like the Chocobo game. Talking about side things, the card game Tetra Master is a joke compared to Triple Triad from FF8.
I must say that I couldn't finish the game, because I just couldn't play this 'game' even when I gave it a xx. try.

Everything about that last post winds me up.
But i'm not going to get angry, because i can tell you haven't played IX.

Have fun with your broken sloppy battle system and bland characters mate :)
You are obviously not worthy of the masterpeice that is IX, l2ff

Edit: Childish story? I dare you to play through it and say that, beneath the lightheardedness (not childishness) at the beginning, there is a plot much deeper and maturer (yes maturer is now a word) than VIII.

:D

Edit 2: And that's not me being an asshole, it's passion.

IMO, mature stories can be told by the eyes of children, and childsh stories can be told by the eyes of adults.

It happened before in other stories, and could happen,(or have happened) in Final Fantasy too.

Just like I've said. Many people will disagree with me. I just see the game differently. Everybody has a different taste for games so don't mind me. Enjoy your game. :)

Also, I'm sorry I meant young characters, not childish story.

I'll go with FFX-2. Although FFXIII is my choice in the main series I played entirely.

The way they rushed on X-2 (great cutscenes tho) and the countless similar dungeons are so damn boring , I can't express how my feeling are about the game. The gameplay was the only thing refreshing for a change, but just it, it's too little.

I add FF1 and FF2! Those are a pain in the arse, I almost forgot.

I suppose 1 & 2 were pretty bad but they were so old and ancient it's kind of hard to pick on them. So if I move into more modern territory I suppose FFVIII would come out on top of the bottom heap for me. I hated the characters, I hated the system, and I really hated having monsters develop along with me.

I think a lot of people jump to say that XII is the worst with one of the reasons being that "Vaan is whiny and annoying and supposed to be the lead." The important thing to remember about XII is that they took a really different route: The story is actually about three characters, something that Final Fantasy has actually done before.
Examples of what I mean:
>>IV was about Cecil and Kain, albeit more about Cecil.
>>VI was about Terra, Locke, Celes, Cyan, Edgar, yadda yadda yadda.
>>VII: Mostly about Cloud, but goes touches on Tifa and Barrett's motivations as well. (If they ever re-made VII, I'd really like to see those two developed more. Cloud has excellent development, but he's the only one.)
>>VIII: Again, mostly about Squall, but also a lot about Rinoa and Siefer. (VIII had a very "first person" perspective, as in, if written down, it would be narrated completely by Squall. This is different from VI, wherein it would be written in "third-person omniscient," meaning the reader would hear what everybody was thinking and feeling.)
>>IX was about Zidane, Dagger/Garnet and Vivi.

So, if you look at XII, who are the main characters? I would say primarily it is Ashe's story, and then Basch and Balthier's. They have a common motive: wanting to bring the Empire down. They have each lost something (a kingdom, a brother, a father) to the Empire, and the game focuses on them either coming to terms with that or getting it back. All three are looking to resolve or atone for something in their past (deserting a kingdom, framed for murder, running away).
So where does Vaan fit in? I would call him the "lens" of the story. XII would be written in a first person perspective as well, but instead of narrating his own life as Squall would, Vaan would tell us Ashe, Basch and Balthier's story.

Try looking at it like that next time you play it, and I guarantee it will be a hell of a lot more enjoyable.

(And for the record, my pick for worst is X-2. Just... the soundtrack. And the costumes. And the total OOC of Yuna. Errrgh.... so bad. It's like they tried to make a Final Fantasy 70s Charlie's Angels or something. I actually couldn't finish that game.)

IMO, the worst final fantasies would have to be:

3) Final Fantasy 10-2 - I hated Charlie Angels. I wasn't very fond of FFX. Then Square said "You know what would be a good idea..."

2) Final Fantasy 5 - It's job class idea was okay, but was far too broken and made gameplay extremely easy with little level grinding

1) Final Fantasy 1 - This was the game that saved Square from certain death. I understand that it was the 80s, but I don't understand how anybody got pass Garland. No plot, just people telling you what to do next. And not one, nor two, or even three, but four silent protangists. The playable characters didn't even have dialouge. Well, I guess different times, different preferences.

I have to say that I find FF3 the worse of the series. It's way too fricken hard, and it doesn't really have much of a storyline. It just copies and pastes FF 1's. The final dungeon is almost impossible and if you loose you have to start from the beginning and try and get passed that tough dungeon and bosses again.

I like FF 9 alot, but I think that Alpha has the right to share his own opinion. If he dislikes FF9 and finds it childish, then he finds it childish. It's only his opinion.
:)

I have voted for X-2. To be fair number II and VI are the only ones on that list I havent played......Having a DS and PS3. In my opnion after loving X...and than playing X-2...I was just awefully disappointed....It was bad as a sequal and In general I hated the story. It didnt even half heartedly attempt to meet its prequal...I cant vote for 12 or 13 because I for one love the old and the new...I favor the old but am open minded to change.

It was hard to choose the worst so I picked 8 and 13, I played about 40 hours of 13 and just gave up, it was so boring to me and just the same thing over and over... plus I didn't like any characters besides lightning.

8 I can't bring myself to finish because of that stupid junction system, I also am not really fond of any of the caracters :(

I was going to also vote for X-2 but realised I did really enjoy the battle system which kept it fun for me... too bad the story and characters sucked :(

The original game on NES was hardly the worst; in fact, played straight today, it's still fun for me as I expect nearly nothing. The new PSP remakes and the like kind of ruin it for me; I wish they would port it to something handheld in its original form.

I was personally torn between saying II was terrible or XIII, but ultimately XIII has got to be the worst. It's hardly an RPG, much less a Final Fantasy game. Everything from its plot, its forgettable characters, and even its style doesn't match any (read: ANY) of the other installments in the series.

I suppose Lightning wasn't too bad, and I liked how they handled her from the start, but by the end she was one of the most static characters in the game, which severely hampered it.

Besides, like a friend said, it was like playing Final Fantasy VII's first three hours when you're stuck in Midgar - only enlarged to a thirty-hour game. When the world opened up, I was finally excited to "leave Midgar" and go out and see the real game where it's hands-off. Suffice to say, I was brutally disappointed.

Sorry, as much as I hated Firion's ridiculous questing in II, I'd rather play it three times more than have to play XIII again once. At least the music was beautiful in II.
