Why do FFFan's hate this game?

First off i have no idea why people hate the love scenes with rinoa and squall or think they're not needed WHY? almost in every game the main dude is a badass and turns on a new leaf and scores with the main female. Seriously...

They probably hated the story more in FFVIII because of how poor it seemed to others. At least XII wasn't some generic love tale.

I loved this game especially for it's storyline. I liked how the GF's were used but the thing i didn't like was how the monsters leveled up when you leveled up. If you couldn't beat a boss then you couldn't just level up some more and try again...even though the bosses weren't that tough except Omega Weapon and I though Diablos was pretty tough.

FFVIII is my favorite of the series. It had everything right! Graphics, story, characters, music all is top notch. Story was immense had you thinking the hole time. Junction system is very underrated i personally love it because it gives you the chance to completely customize you're characters. Drawing magic was, I'll be honest not so great but its easy to understand and pick up. I don't understand why everyone seems to hate it so much!!

The only reason I see that would make people hate it is that the junction system and all that stuff was too hard. Therefore If it was too hard for you, than your either stupid or you suck at FF in general and you don't deserve to play the game.

It's FF people! it's supposed to be a chalenge. If there's a game to be hated its FF12 with it's stupid battle system.

Gotta say that I loved it. It got me to play the FF series.

For me, the Junction system is just a new name for the Materia of VII. It was annoying at times, yeah, but if you put a little thought into it, you could find the perfect combo for everything.

As for making a character uber right from the start, you could.....so long as you busted your hump doing the work for it. I worked as much as I could at leveling and ubering my chars, and still had to wait until I had full access to the world before I could really get them there.

But I will say one thing. If they were going to make another game in VIII's world, I would want the whole GF memory thing changed from the storyline. That, and be able to set your magic so that you don't spend past a certain amount, or set it aside completely.

-Sigh-

I hate it.

Into context:

The only thing that kept this game from winning the Worst Final Fantasy Game recognition (in my opinion) is the fact that it has many improvements over Final Fantasy VII. Both the character and enemy graphics are much more detailed, the music is superior and the FMVs are amazing instead of unprofessional looking. However, this did not make for a great game when compared to other Final Fantasy titles. While the character personalities fit almost perfectly, this game is even more futuristic that the previous title and once again that took the Final Fantasy out of it

With the Full Motion Videos being amazing, you'd expect an equally great story. Unfortunately that is not how it worked out. Even though the story isn't exactly bad, it can frequently feel like you're playing an interactive movie, which is not what this series is supposed to be about.

As a final note, this game was almost as straightforward as Final Fantasy X, with just a little more room to stray from the direct path. While it fit the game well, it definitely could have used a little more freedom.

I loved it! not perfect as ff7 but its awsome! i wish junctioning was more effective and better but hey it was fun if you had 100 ultima , life, full-life, shell, triple, double and aura (did i leave any good ones out that need 100 too be perfect but was hard to obtain?)

I didnt love it as i never completed it but i will ... i got to the bit in space but as i mean i dont love it tht dont mean i hate it , it was descent enough for me to replay :D

I didn't see the problem with this game. People usually say they hate things but its ironic they can hardly make up a good excuse as to why, which pisses me off. The junction system was interesting, and they had the good old battle the summons which is very fun. Also it was challenging to get most the character's weapons and I enjoyed finding all the parts, even though I cheated :P

So IMO there is nothing wrong with this game.

I've not played much of this game, so I understand this is quite a biased opinion:

I hate it.

The Juction System ... It leaves me pulling my hair out. I mean: WTF? Drawing Magic (Instead of bloody using it ¬_¬). It just makes everyone copies of themselves :\ Give me back my classes! >_<

The only one of these so called "amazing Limit Breaks" I've actually managed to use is Seifer's "No Mercy" (It does get points for reminding me of Amarant's "Flair" ability ^_^). It wasn't all that.

The characters do hardly any physical damage. Timing the attacks for Quistits, Zell and Selphie with the R1 button is really hard ¬_¬ Magic does really naff damage, plus, I can't frigging use it without lowering my stats!

Squall ... *shudders* whoever thought of this anti-social
fucktard
should be slapped. Ugh. I just hate his whole personality. When Quistits is telling him how she feels at the place in the Training Grounds and he just blanks her ... what a
bastard
. I want a game with a protagonist with PERSONALITY. (Hence why I adore IX <3)

It's funny. I keep hearing about Squall/Rinoa ... but all I'm seeing so far is Squall/Seifer. I actually like Seifer.

*Casts Protect to save himself from Flames. Oh no, my Defence stat is now gone :\*

You are a smart human being, and deserve a cookie. xD

It's FF people! it's supposed to be a chalenge.
Honestly, most of the people that I find that say they hate the junction system, isn't because they couldn't figure it out, or that it was too hard, it was because it was annoying and somewhat time consuming at times.

I hated the junction system. The junction system is probably the only system out of all the FF's I can say I actually hate. And it isn't cause I couldn't figure it out. I figured it out fine. It isn't hard to figure out how to junction what magic to where, and etc....It's the fact that I have to junction magic that I'm using to stats. Like I've said over and over again, I don't find it "fun" or "interesting", to go and have to draw magic, junction it to a stat or something, then have to turn around, use the magic, have my stat/hp/whatever drop, then have to draw again. God I hated drawing. Pretty much what I did was draw everything I could, junction it, and then barely used any magic at all unless it was just absolutely necessary so I didn't have to bother with it.

But once again, it's all just my opinion. Nothing more.

I loked the junction system when you had the spells i said earlier and if you didnt use them but ffx suck monkey the "shpere grid" what stupid person made that up?
that is the worst idea for levels ever... i hated it.. and no true LVls so no special and the "overdrives" sucked so ff8 was A LOT BETTER

I actually liked this game's story, yes especially the love story. It was the bloody draw system that drove me nuts. That was the worst idea ever.

i most definitely do not love this game. the draw system and weapon upgrading system is what really ruined it for me, and also the fact that it always took 1000 experience to level up and you could get to level 99 on the first disc if you felt like it. also the characters were all pretty corny expeciall squall he was such an emo pansy. and i didnt even like Cid in this game, and i liked cid in everyyy final fantasy. except 12 of course. i know you guys love it but it just wasnt my favorite. sorry

I loved the story here, and the junction system didn't bother me. What did was the fact that, though the enemies levelled up with Squall, anyone under his level didn't get any more experience than they would were Squall their level. I mean, my Squall is over level 50 and the others are 20 - 32 or something. :/

Other than that, I love the game. And despite that bad point, it's my favourite Final Fantasy, it has to be said. =)

MAybe they hate because they love it so much, It's conflicting with their love for other FFs...

I loved the Junction system and I loved FF8's story, perhaps I am being biased because this was my first FF but I think the game's story was very pretty and deep and the negative impact it had was only because of FF7 Fans who should know that you have to evolve

Something about 8...

You know, I hear alot of people talking so bad about 8 all the time. Then again, I also hear people saying 8 was the best. I know alot of people didnt like it because Final Fantasy 8 was really futuristic based and didnt have alot of magic, which was strange kinda. Like, I always figured FF was supposed to have a 50/50 balance of magic to technology, something like that, if not, a higher magic percentage. While 8 had something like a 10-20/90-80 balance. It probably threw alot of people off. Anyways, I loved the game, at first I didnt understand it, so I played it through again, did some extra stuff, and it was really fun. I dont know why I loved the game so much, I just did. I loved the map and the characters and just the whole game really. It had the best love story in a FF game, easily comparing or out doing X's love story. Anyways, what does everybody else think about this game?

I loved this game, it's my second favorite FF of all time.
I mean the storyline was great, the battle system was good, but the characters' backgrounds were probably what killed it. I mean, they all had the same backgrounds, didn't they?
Then again, their personalities were quite awesome as well.

I guess the thing that people bash the most is the futuristic stuff, like you said. It wasn't too much fantasy, at least in my opinion, I mean, they all went to school and stuff, much like we do in the real world, meaning that we can relate to their everyday lives, whereas in all the other FF's it was hard to do that.
