Rinoa

For me this game is like back in the day sort of stuff man, so Rinoa was when fully armed and at her most powerful(ofcourse that means different things for everyone) she was able to real of nothing but powerful magic spells during angel wing and given the rare ability for anyone tom use magic effectivly in the game she earned my respect for giving the magic system an outlet that was as powerful as the magic in final fantasy 7

Most has already been said, but, I'll throw in my two cents:

What I like about Rinoa:
She's determined.
She really does try to succeed.
She's cute, not gonna lie.
She's a more realistic character.

What I don't like about Rinoa:
She's childish. [As demonstrated by her rebelling against her father.]
She's headstrong and impulsive.
She's stronger than Squall. I refuse to believe that a sling-shot will do more damage than a Gunblade.
Angelo. Shadow made it cool, Rinoa made it...odd.
Her schemes. Example: "I'm going to give an omnipotent Sorceress a magic-depressing bangle from the most famous Scientist in the world. Oh, and I'm a well known Rebel leader. She won't know!" =/
You had to save her six times. From GeroGero, from the Iguions, from falling off the side of Garden, from her coma, from space, from Adel...x_x

Conclusion:
Rinoa could have been a good character, if she wasn't forced into such a cliche role of 'damsel in distress,' They made her the strongest character in the game, and one of the most important, yet they made her, character-wise, the weakest.

i found rinoa really useful. at times, rinoa was more powerful than any of my other characters. her relationship with squall is annoying, but at least she is social and can plan strategies and do something useful.

I think Rinoa is generally a disliked character. The damsel in distress role really turns people off.

Its also kind of annoying how she is one of the characters that does the most damage, but then you hardly get to use her in the second half of the game.

And what really annoyed me was how often she walked into trouble. Especially the last time you had to save her. It's like "Rinoa! She just wanted to be with you Squall! But now she got caught by Seifer!" First of all, the whole needing to be with Squall even though he is in the next room over is kind of nauseating, and second, she only caused trouble for the rest of the party.

And did anyone find it ridiculous that you had to save her when she was hanging off the side of the garden? I mean, everyone else was in trouble too but no, we had to save poor little Rinoa.

If Rinoa wasn't such a damsel in distress, she probably would have been one of my favorite Final Fantasy characters.

I like Rinoa because she was realistic, one of the toughest characters I had in my party,I liked her personality, and I kinda got a few laughs from her humor.Although I found it annoying when you had to save her hundreds of times in the game.Other then that I found her to be one of my favorite Final Fantasy 8 characters.

I think it is pretty safe to say that Rinoa is one of the most disliked FF girls. Square spent too much time trying to make her 'cute,' that they forgot about making her 'likable.'

I will say that Rinoa was a more realistic character than some of the others, but realistic in a way that made me absolutely despise the girl. She reminded me of all of the girls in high school that I just couldn't stand to be around.

Also, here's the 7-stage list of when you had to rescue the little trouble-maker:
1.) GeroGero. Because even though Rinoa knew the entire layout of the President's train....she didn't know he employed a...ZOMBIE BODY DOUBLE.
2.) Iguions & Edea. Because, Rinoa just couldn't listen to Quistis, and decided that she actually could help. What unfolded was more idiocy. =/
3.) Hanging off the side of Garden. That girl can hold on for a LONG time.
4.) Coma. Because dead-weight is always useful. =/
5.) Space. It's not bad enough she causes trouble when she acts on her own...but now she's possessed by a Sorceress and decides to jump out into space.
6.) Sorceress Memorial. "I love you Squall, but, oops, I'm a Sorceress. So, now that you've stopped being an emo git, I'm going to go get myself sealed and you'll be alone forever." That scene in the Ragnarok made me laugh because of how horribly scripted it was with that. =/
7.) Adel. Because, really, Seifer can't be such a bad guy anymore! Apparently Rinoa didn't really stop to think about 'psychotic ex-boyfriends.'

Having to SAVE the main 'heroine' SEVEN times is all the reason I think anyone would need to dislike her character.

Rinoa is cute, but still she's a sign of bad luck now why do I have to save her multiple times? O_O If I was Squall I would throw myself off the nearest cliff, she's just a pain.

She's a waste of my time. Whenever I tried to train her - WHOOPS, IM IN A SITUATION WHERE I NEED MY ASS SAVED AGAIN.

Annoying little madam.

Blaaah... I love Rinoa. She's just so cute and nice. And I never really got annoyed with her. She was awesome. I mean, saving her didn't bug me because it was insanely adorable. I never even noticed how many times you had to. She tried to open up Squall but she had to act random because he's all oblivious to a pretty girl. Seriously, Squall clearly had no experience in that department. And he made me laugh so hard when he said he'd be her knight. HA! But she's so normal is the thing, that's why I liked her maybe. Come on, 17 year old has a crush on a guy, of course people act flirty!!

I was never annoyed by her either. Although I do understand why alot of people don't like her lol.

Infact I pretty much agree with your whole post there fosho, I never noticed the times she had to be rescued I just got on with it. Although when I had to rescue her from dangling off the garden I got rather annoyed because I kept fluffing that stupid fight with that Galbadian soldier

Haha, the last two posts actually describe how I feel about Rinoa. I never did notice how annoying she can be until someone mentioned it to me after I had finished the game. That girl was only 12 years old and on and on she ranted about how Rinoa was such a pathetic damsel in distress. Needless to say, I was shocked. o.o I thought, "Really? Odd, I never really noticed, but I guess I can see what you mean now."

Yes she was a damsel in distress but I actually didn't mind saving her butt many times during the game. I don't know, I guess it was to be expected...? Usually that's what you really have to do with heroines in a RPG game anyway. To me, it added to the romance that was blooming, I suppose. So I still love her character despite her ugly reputation for being a pain.

If you're all anything like me, you'll hate her either because of the large portion of the game, where she's otherwise incapacitated, or because you hated how much of a chore it was when you were in space [both saving her and fighting aboard the Ragnarok].

However, I just completed the game again the other day and I made my main party Squall, Zell and Rinoa. I've grown to love her in this game. The large portion where she's out for the count is mainly a time where you do nothing but speak, anyway - I found that the most levels by which anyone advanced was 3. In the long run, it's not a lot, given that I managed to make up for that in two battles on the Island Closest to Hell.

Her Limit Breaks are quite diverse - invincibility, resurrection, free items and some decent damage, as well as unlimited magic, where the damage is five-fold. I'd call her a pretty good character, in that respect.

As for the story, I don't think she was the DID at all. You may have inadvertently had to save her in the course of the story but, let's face it, you had to save her because she wanted to fight bravely, or do something by herself.

I'm now a good fan of her.

but why would you hate her,she like the best girl on the game to me,cause the shooting stiar is tight to me!

well all i can say is back when i was 10 i was smitten with her i was in complete love she was my reason for playing the game i only recentley ( 2 years ago) played it again and finished it in quick succesion. but i love her still to this day she rocks

I actually like Rinoa, I mean when she was with that resistance she was actually quite ballsy, yeah she was like a damsel in distress most of the time but she was a major part of the story, she is one of my fave characters in FF.

Rinoa used to be one of my least favorite characters, but now I've come to really like her. The only reason she used to get on my nerves is because she seemed to be always seeking attention.. especially from guys. That's not really a bad thing, until you learn that she was with Seifer.. My first thought after learining that was "slut!"

As for the whole damsel in distress thing, that never really bothered me. Like Mistuki said, that's the role that most girls in RPGs take. I mean even Tifa who is the most kick-ass girl in FF has to be saved every now and then. Being the damsel in distress also brought Rinoa and Squall closer together, which was basically the whole point of the game.

I was indifferent about Rinoa, but I wouldn't say I hated her like so many do.

I liked that she was very strong willed about things she believed in, but I can see why alot of people would get annoyed by her. She can come off as very clingy (which most damsels usually do), but I expected that. She was good for Squall though, I think he needed someone like her. I say that because she and Seifer were too much alike (very outspoken, irrational to a point, quick to go on gut instinct, angered easily, etc) which is probably what attracted the two of them together at the start, but Rinoa needed someone to make her qualities stand out, and Squall was the obvious choice there. Besides, I've always liked the idea of Seifer x Quistis for the same reasons, but that's another story. XD
